Beauty Gift Guide

Each year I impatiently await the releases of any beauty items and spend a long carefully considering my options between drugstore and high end. I know I’m not the only one who does this and each year I find things that I wouldn’t necessarily buy myself but I do give them as ideas to others.

Beauty gifts are always a safe gift to purchase, whether it’s for your friend, girlfriend, grandmother, wife or daughter, there is something for everyone. This year I’ve picked a few things that I would like and I thought you guys may want to use as ideas for your friends and family. Remember, these gifts don’t necessarily have to be for females as makeup is for all genders!

I have selected a few items from drugstore to high end so there is a variety of prices to pick from. The first for me and the one that got me the most excited, is the Benefit The Great Brownaza. It is essentially a box full of 5 full sized brow products from Benefit. I’ve done a review on this already s be sure to check it out. It costs £49.50 and has around £120 worth of products which is a total bargain! If you can pick one up, I highly recommend it.

Next is the Kat Von D London is Calling Vol 2 set. For £19.50 you receive the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovecraft, Studded Kiss lipstick in Mercy and the Tattoo Liner in black. I especially like this product because all of Kat Von D products are free from animal cruelty and the price of this set isn’t too high at all considering it’s bought in Debenhams.

I speak so highly of this years Tanya Burr Cosmetics Christmas collection this year. I really enjoy the makeup line that she has created over the past few years as it’s a decent brand and the formula of the products is absolutely fantastic. This year I bought the Jingle and Mingle night set which is a combination of 3 eye shadows, a liner, lip gloss, bronzer and glitter pot. It’s £18 from Superdrug and I think it’s a lovely set for any age range and skin tone.

Something I personally have had my eye on this year is the Makeup Revolution Ultimate Nudes Brush Collection, as I’m writing this it’s £25 but the original price is £50. Although it’s likely to stay at a discounted price. With the set you receive 9 brushes and a silicone makeup applicator. I purchased the Christmas brush collection last year and I highly recommend these brushes. They don’t shred at all, they’re so soft and really do apply makeup effortlessly. These are also ideal first makeup brushes for those teenagers who are just starting out!

I had a browse on the Beauty Bay website and come across the Zoeva Plaisir Box for £48. I absolutely love the Zoeva eyeshadows, they’re fantastic quality and dependant on where you get them from, they aren’t all that expensive. In this set you get 3 eyeshadow palettes which each hold 10 shadows. So you’re receiving 30 eyeshadow of an amazing quality. These come as a set but also as individuals if you wish (I think Cult Beauty stock them individually) and I think they’re the most gorgeous colours that can cater for all types of looks.

Plaisir Box

Again, from Beauty Bay for those lipstick lovers. Ofra Cosmetics have The Lip Affair Collection for an amazing £30. This set comes with 3 liquid lipsticks in Laguna Beach (a baby pink tone), Milan (a burgundy) and Manhattan (a nude pink). What more could a girl want? They’re long lasting, the formula is creamy and not drying and most of all, you’re getting 3 beautiful lipstick shades for a great price.

The Lip Affair Collection

Real Techniques are widely loved across the world for their high quality, low price brushes and makeup tools. In fact, their brushes and sponges are my absolute favourite. In Superdrug the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge comes in a pack of 6 for around £24.99! Bargain if you ask me. Only a few weeks ago they were selling these packs for £12!! If this deal is still on, you’ve got yourself a steal. Although let’s be fair, you’re saving money by buying them as a pack of 6 anyway!

A final one from Makeup Revolution is the 8 pan amplified highlighting palette. This palette has the most incredible shade selection for highlights and eyeshadows and can definitely cater for so many skin tones. Honestly, for £15 you cannot go wrong with this palette. Everyone knows Makeup Revolution is one of the best drugstore brands around right now and this product is a winner in my eyes.

These are the beauty items I highly recommend for those beauty lovers out there! There are such a variety of beauty gift sets on the market right now and if you’re stuck for ideas I hope that I’ve helped.

Summer Makeup Look

Summer is here! I love doing seasons makeup looks for you guys and now the time has come for my summer makeup look.

During summer I love a very natural, bronzed look. I don’t use a lot of blushes or highlight at all either. Everything is very soft and neutral which I love for this time of year.

I never want to feel like I’m wearing loads of makeup when I’m in the heat. I find that it melts off my face and makes me feel more hot and sweaty than I feel necessary. I hope you like this look, enjoy!

Base:

Firstly, I started with the Revlon ColourStay Foundation and mixed it with the Stilla Aqua glow perfecting bronzer. I did this to darken the foundation because it was too light for me.

For concealer I used the Maybelline Fit Me for any blemishes and then the Bourjois Radiance Reveal concealer under my eyes to highlight.  Then I set all of this using the Maybelline Super Stay power but only in the places I’ve concealed so I still have that nice glow coming through.

I used only one palette for the rest of my base, the Tanya Burr Rosy Cheek Palette. I bronzed my forehead, cheeks and under my jaw line with this bronzer and added more than usual to look extra summery and tan. I lightly put the blush from the palette on the apples of my cheek (very light, it’s super pigmented) and then dusted the highlight on the high points of my face. I used my beauty sponge to buff everything out and look flawless.

For eyes I only used the bronzer shade from the Tanya Burr palette. I started in the crease and then dusted it all over my lid. I used the highlight for my inner corner and finished with the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.

For my brows I went in with the BBrowbar eyebrow pencil in Indian Chocolate and only filled in the areas that needed doing.

Lips:

I lined my lips with the L’Oreal lip pencil in 302 and buffed it out with fingers. I then filled in my lips with the YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in 218.

There you have it! My finished look. I hope you enjoyed. Check out my social media:

Rimmel Fix and Prime Spray

I have been an all time lover of the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray. Together we are in a long term committed relationship and I’ve been loving it for a very long time. However, I recently come across the Rimmel Insta Fix & Go Setting Spray which I got from Superdrug for £6.99 and I feel like I’ve been having a secret but very happy affair with it and it may continue to go on for a very long time.

This product is a primer and setting spray which I love. I always like to apply my Maybelline Baby Primer and allow that to sink in and then spray the Rimmel Fix and Spray evenly across my face. I find that the best technique is to apply it in a cross shape in the air and let it settle onto the skin and wait for it to dry. It applies very quickly and it doesn’t make me look wet at all or overly dewy either. It really helps my makeup last a lot longer too. It doesn’t have any scent either which makes me happy since I’m not a huge fan of overly scented products at all.

I will admit, it doesn’t beat the Urban Decay setting spray but I do think it’s a brilliant and affordable alternative in the drugstore. It’s definitely ideal for beginners and would be an excellent product for those on a budget. The biggest issue that I have with this is the spriz on the botle top, I find that it doesn’t spray enough and I have to spend a fair while ensuring that it’s applied to the whole of my face. Admittedly,  it does work better with the crossing technique but a better spritz would definitely make this the perfect product.

Favourite Drugstore Brands

Hi guys!

Today we’re talking about some of my favourite drugstore brands. The drugstore have some amazing brands to offer these days and some that I will forever go back to more than I would with high end products. The variety they have to offer is outstanding and drugstore brands are really trying to bring out an affordable priced product with high end formulas and I’ve found some brands do really well with this. So, keep reading to find out my favourite drugstore brands and why I love them.

Number 1: Revlon

I’ve been using revlon products for around a year now and I’ve definitely found some killer products that are brilliant and can definitely be mistaken for high end products. The variety of makeup Revlon offer is outstanding and the formula’s are brilliant. Admittedly, as with most brands they do have some hit and misses but overall I genuinely recommend Revlon. My favourite Revlon products is the Colourstay foundation and the Photoready powder. The Colourstay foundation at one stage was the only foundation I would ever use, it’s got such a high coverage and it glides on perfectly. Generally I use my beauty sponge to buff it in and it leaves such a flawless base and they also have a large variety of colour selection to choose from. The Photoready powder is another win for me, it’s fantastic. I’ve not been using this for as long as the foundation but it’s become a must have product for me. I couldn’t live without it. It sits on my face perfectly and doesn’t cake up at all, it’s so lightweight and feels so soft. It also sets my undereye area so well that it doesn’t crease at all throughout the day.

Number 2: Rimmel

Rimmel have been a long time love of mine. I bought my first ever makeup product from Rimmel and have loved them ever since. My first foundation was the Wake Me Up foundation and I often go back to it, I’ve been wearing makeup for around 5 years now and this foundation has been one I always return to. However, this is not why I love them. Rimmel is super affordable and the selection has definitely expanded brilliantly. My favourite products from the range are the Kate Moss lipsticks, their beautiful creamy formula, for me is the best in the drugstore and I always head to their range to look for new lipsticks. They last all day and don’t bleed at all, my favourite colours are the 107 for the Autumn/Winter season and 38 for the Spring/Summer season. I’ve never been a fan of their eyeshadow selections at all and some of their mascaras really don’t do it for me but their nail varnishes are also brilliant and as I said above, their foundations really are brilliant quality for such an affordable price. They’re the ideal first foundation for any person new to makeup.

Number 3: Bourjois

Bourjois have been a recent new love of mine, having been curious to test their products out I finally done it at the end of 2016 and I will never look back. I’ve not tried out everything that I would like to with this brand but I’ve definitely found some amazing products whilst using them. My favourite, go to product from Bourjois is the Radiance Concealer which was my first ever product from them and my go to concealer. It’s amazing, the coverage is outstanding but the best thing is that it’s so brightening under the eyes and super longwearing. I use it to highlight my under eye area, bridge of my nose, chin, cupid’s bow and centre of my forehead and it leaves such an amazing glow to the face. I also love the Black Kohl eyeliner, it’s so good and so easy to blend. It’s actually my favourite pencil liner that I’ve ever used. It’s really longwearing and doesn’t run throughout the day at all. I love to line my upper waterline with this and run it along my lash line and blend it out to create a smokey look.

Number 4: Revolution

If i’m ever looking for a new eyeshadow palette from the drugstore, I always head straight to the revolution stand in Superdrug. They’re the best in the drugstore and are ideal for makeup beginners. They offer such affordable dupes of high end palettes like the Kat Von D Shade and Light palette, as well as the Urban Decay Naked palettes. They’re fantastic, so blendable and buildable. Really buttery and smooth on the eyelid. I love them. I also think the Iconic Lights and Contour Pro palette is outstanding and an excellent dupe for the Nyx contour palette. For £8 an identical dupe to the nyx palette for such a great price. Their contour shades are my go to and I think they’re fantastic for all skin tones.

My Beauty Wish List

Some fantastic new products have been released recently and I’ve definitely got my eye on a fair few but with my student budget. If I am totally honest, some of these things I’ll probably never purchase as I’ll either go off them or just forget to purchase them when I do have the money, also my budget doesn’t let me buy hundreds of pounds of eyeshadow palletes or lipsticks unfortunately. So, I thought I would share with you guys some of the products that I’m interested in and wanting.

Real Techniques are known for their affordable and amazing quality brushes and a few years ago they released their Bold Metals collection which was exclusive to Boots. Recently they’ve released their MultiTech brushes which are the higher priced brushes exclusive to Superdrug. These new brushes have been created for mulitple uses, whether you want to contour, use to blend eyeshadows or apply lip products. These are designed to work well regardless of what you’re using them for. I’ve really got my eye on these and will definitely be purchasing a few to try and test them for you.

Next, I’ve had my eye on the Spectrum brushes for a while now and I received a crease brush from Spectrum in my Februrary BirchBox which I have been loving. It’s made me want to try some more of their brushes, hopefully I’ll be able to make an order for some sooner rather than later.

On to makeup, Too Faced decided to release their Sweet Peach Palette again and I think it’s an absolutely beautiful palette and would be gorgeous for the summer. The colours in this palette would be the ideal shades and combinations for my summer in New York and it would probably be the only palette I would take away with me since I think I would be able to make so many looks with the selection of colours. I also already know that I love the Too Faced palettes having already own 5 of their palettes including the Chocolate Bon Bon palette.

I’ve also got my eye on the Anastasia Modern Renissance Palette. I know that so many people rave about this and I’m definitely late on considering this palette. I just think the 14 shades in this palette are beautiful and ABH are known for their high quality shadows. Since I don’t own any products from ABH I’d like to pick this one up as my first as it’s the product I’m most excited about trying. I think the only thing that has ever stopped me from buying this palette is the price but it’s actually around the same price as the Too Faced ones. My fear is probably because I haven’t purchased anything from this brand but since so many people love it, I can’t imagine I won’t.

Nic was wearing the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick in Pillowtalk and Sam was wearing the Clinique Lipstick in Ruby Pop. Pillow talk is a very pink nude with grey undertones which reminds me of the Sleek Liquid Lipstick in Birthday Suit. I really want to get this lipstick because I find that liquid lipsticks aren’t always something I want to wear but I love the subtle pink tones. The Clinique lipstick in Ruby Pop is a bright red but it’s a wearable red unlike the Mac lipstick Lady Danger that I would only wear for evening events because it’s just too bright. However, I do love a red lip with a natural look as it helps to enhance your features slightly more. These two shades are on my definite shopping lists in the near future!

L’Oreal Lumi Magique Primer

So.. I’m aware that I’ve been super delayed on trying this primer. In fact definitely over 6 months delayed if not longer. I was so hesitant about trying this primer because I thought it wasn’t going to be as good as everybody claimed and eventually I gave in and decided to try it for myself. I knew I wouldn’t know whether I did like it or if I didn’t unless I gave it a go. I picked it up last month and I’ve been giving it a fair trial to see whether it’s that good.

I don’t always wear primers as my foundation generally stays put and if I do wear them it’ll be in my T zone. However, as I’ve been trying this I’ve been applying it across the whole of my face and waiting for it to dry before applying further products. It comes out so white, it’s really brightening and highlighting. In fact it shocked me when I first went to apply it as I thought I’d picked up an unusual looking highlighter.

To apply I just rub it against my fingers and distribute it across my face by massaging it and gently patting it in. It’s incredibly soft and don’t feel like a drugstore primer at all. It doesn’t need much work at all to blend in and it dries quickly too. However, my favourite thing about this is that it makes my skin feel so cool and soft. Whenever I apply this it always leaves me feeling like I’ve been wearing a sheet mask. It’s incredible for moisture too.

Do I think that it makes my makeup last longer? Eh, I never really see a difference. Personally I think and actually know I can wear makeup and not apply this primer. I don’t think it makes my makeup last longer at all.

Do I think this makes my makeup look glowy and dewy? Absolutely! I always feel so highlighted and dewy when I wear this under my makeup. It leaves this beautiful glow under the foundation and I always have compliments when I wear this. So then yes, I’ll possible repurchase this for when I really want a glowing and highlighted look.

My First YSL Lipstick

I finally made my first high-end purchase on a new YSL Lipstick and I have zero regrets. In fact, I’m over the moon because it’s beautiful and I love it a whole bunch. I’ve been interested in buying one for so long and I’m forever seeing them on other bloggers posts. I bought it from House of Fraser for £23.40 (Normal price £26).

I got mine in the Rouge Pur Couture The Mats collection in the shade 218 Coral Remix. It’s so perfect, the ideal simple nude with pink/beige tones. It leaves a matte finish and it so creamy to wear. Extremely light weight and is comfortable and long wearing. It’s exactly what I want in a lipstick and I’m so pleased with my choice of luxury lipstick.

I think it’s such a lovely contribution to my makeup collection. I will definitely purchase another at some stage too!  The pictures don’t do it enough justice at all.
