Beauty Gift Guide

Each year I impatiently await the releases of any beauty items and spend a long carefully considering my options between drugstore and high end. I know I’m not the only one who does this and each year I find things that I wouldn’t necessarily buy myself but I do give them as ideas to others.

Beauty gifts are always a safe gift to purchase, whether it’s for your friend, girlfriend, grandmother, wife or daughter, there is something for everyone. This year I’ve picked a few things that I would like and I thought you guys may want to use as ideas for your friends and family. Remember, these gifts don’t necessarily have to be for females as makeup is for all genders!

I have selected a few items from drugstore to high end so there is a variety of prices to pick from. The first for me and the one that got me the most excited, is the Benefit The Great Brownaza. It is essentially a box full of 5 full sized brow products from Benefit. I’ve done a review on this already s be sure to check it out. It costs £49.50 and has around £120 worth of products which is a total bargain! If you can pick one up, I highly recommend it.

Next is the Kat Von D London is Calling Vol 2 set. For £19.50 you receive the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovecraft, Studded Kiss lipstick in Mercy and the Tattoo Liner in black. I especially like this product because all of Kat Von D products are free from animal cruelty and the price of this set isn’t too high at all considering it’s bought in Debenhams.

I speak so highly of this years Tanya Burr Cosmetics Christmas collection this year. I really enjoy the makeup line that she has created over the past few years as it’s a decent brand and the formula of the products is absolutely fantastic. This year I bought the Jingle and Mingle night set which is a combination of 3 eye shadows, a liner, lip gloss, bronzer and glitter pot. It’s £18 from Superdrug and I think it’s a lovely set for any age range and skin tone.

Something I personally have had my eye on this year is the Makeup Revolution Ultimate Nudes Brush Collection, as I’m writing this it’s £25 but the original price is £50. Although it’s likely to stay at a discounted price. With the set you receive 9 brushes and a silicone makeup applicator. I purchased the Christmas brush collection last year and I highly recommend these brushes. They don’t shred at all, they’re so soft and really do apply makeup effortlessly. These are also ideal first makeup brushes for those teenagers who are just starting out!

I had a browse on the Beauty Bay website and come across the Zoeva Plaisir Box for £48. I absolutely love the Zoeva eyeshadows, they’re fantastic quality and dependant on where you get them from, they aren’t all that expensive. In this set you get 3 eyeshadow palettes which each hold 10 shadows. So you’re receiving 30 eyeshadow of an amazing quality. These come as a set but also as individuals if you wish (I think Cult Beauty stock them individually) and I think they’re the most gorgeous colours that can cater for all types of looks.

Plaisir Box

Again, from Beauty Bay for those lipstick lovers. Ofra Cosmetics have The Lip Affair Collection for an amazing £30. This set comes with 3 liquid lipsticks in Laguna Beach (a baby pink tone), Milan (a burgundy) and Manhattan (a nude pink). What more could a girl want? They’re long lasting, the formula is creamy and not drying and most of all, you’re getting 3 beautiful lipstick shades for a great price.

The Lip Affair Collection

Real Techniques are widely loved across the world for their high quality, low price brushes and makeup tools. In fact, their brushes and sponges are my absolute favourite. In Superdrug the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge comes in a pack of 6 for around £24.99! Bargain if you ask me. Only a few weeks ago they were selling these packs for £12!! If this deal is still on, you’ve got yourself a steal. Although let’s be fair, you’re saving money by buying them as a pack of 6 anyway!

A final one from Makeup Revolution is the 8 pan amplified highlighting palette. This palette has the most incredible shade selection for highlights and eyeshadows and can definitely cater for so many skin tones. Honestly, for £15 you cannot go wrong with this palette. Everyone knows Makeup Revolution is one of the best drugstore brands around right now and this product is a winner in my eyes.

These are the beauty items I highly recommend for those beauty lovers out there! There are such a variety of beauty gift sets on the market right now and if you’re stuck for ideas I hope that I’ve helped.

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation // Review

I’ve recently been testing out the Rimmel Match Perfection foundation and I’ve been loving it. Many years ago during high school, I used the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation religiously. It’s all I ever used and recently I have seen so many people say how amazing the Match Perfection foundation is and I was sceptical but I thought I would test it out myself to see whether it’s worth the hype. SPOLIER: IT’S FANTASTIC.

I wore this foundation for a few days before a night out to test how it wore on my skin. I first started with using the Maybelline Baby Skin primer on one side of my face and leaving the other side free of a primer. I did this so I could truly test out the wear of this product and whether it makes a difference to use a primer or not. I could definitely see a difference between either side when I used a primer and didn’t. The combination of both the primer and foundation made my skin look totally flawless and my pores were so blurred out. It was incredible.

It isn’t too thick at all when it’s on the skin it’s not super dewy but it makes your skin look so healthy which I love. It’s extremely long wearing and has become my go to foundation for a night out because of this. I especially love the shade selection because it caters for so many different skin colours and I think that just makes the collection worth trying really.

I’m wearing it in the photo below and I just love the finish and how other products sit on my skin once it’s applied. It’s also amazing coverage and I didn’t experience it since it is a drugstore foundation.

I totally recommend this foundation and I can see me wanting to try the other complexion products from Rimmel.

Top 10 Makeup Brushes

Out of all the beauty tools, I own to help me do my makeup I always manage to go back to my trusty and loved brushes and sponges that I swear by. I’ve seen this post travelling around and I absolutely love it! I think it’s fantastic to see the variety of brushes that people love and rely on and I thought I would share with you guys a few of my favourites.

#1 Real Techniques Bold Metals Brush in 301. I love to use this to apply contour, bronzer as well as to add powder under my eyes. The shape of this brush really helps to get a really nice, sculpted look but as well to evenly distribute powder under my eyes to set my concealer and make it last longer.

#2 Real Techniques Bold Metals Brush in 203. I use this brush to blend away eyeshadow. I also like to use it to add darker shades to the outer v of my eye. It’s also incredibly soft which I love for my eyes.

#3 Real Techniques Bold Metals in 200. I like to use this brush generally to apply concealer under my eyes and even to blend around blemishes. It’s also brilliant to apply a base colour to my lids after applying an eye primer.

#4 Real Techniques Contour Brush. This brush is from the original face collection and oh my god. I bloody love this brush, in fact it’s probably my favourite out of all the brushes I’ve mentioned. It creates a beautiful contour and because the tip gradually becomes smaller it really helps to make a precise line. I also love this brush for setting my base with powder and applying highlight to the high points of my face. I can imagine it would be good for blush as well.

#5 BH Cosmetics brush in 110. I love this brush to add bronzer and it really helps to create a natural and gorgeous looking dimension to my face.

#6 BH Cosmetics brush in 109. This is a duo-fiber brush and I love to use this to buff in my base and to really make my makeup look flawless.

#7 Morphe Brushes. I got these next two in a set (check it out here on beautybay.co.uk) for £20 but my favourites are a medium sized fluffy brush. I use this for bronzer and I always love how natural it looks.

#8 Morphe Brushes. This is a fan brush which is also from the same set and I just love how it applies highlight. It really does help to make it really precise.

#9 Morphe Brushes in B39. I love this brush, it’s a fluffy blender brush and I use this to apply crease colours and blend them away. It’s so fluffy that it blends like a dream.

#10 Spectrum brush in C06. This is such a large fluffy brush, ideal for blending away product. You can also use this to apply lid colours. It’s incredibly soft and really changes the way your eyeshadow looks.

There we have my 10 favourite brushes! Let me know some of yours, I never say no to trying some new brushes.

Revlon Foundation Stick

DISCLAIMER: This is not me being horrible towards Revlon at all. I do enjoy products from the brand and will more than likely purchase more, just not this foundation. It simply didn’t work for my skin and I didn’t like it.

I don’t enjoy slating products at all, especially when I do enjoy other products from the brand. However, the Revlon Foundation Stick was the most disappointing foundation I have ever used. I’m combination skin between dry/oily which I’m fine with and I generally control it quite well but this foundation literally did nothing, it didn’t even stay on for more than 2 hours and sometimes less.

Regardless of whether I used a primer, moisturiser or whatever, it doesn’t bloody stay on. I got it from Superdrug in the 3 for 2 deal but it’s normal price is £9.99 and it’s not worth it at all. It isn’t even worth the 3 for 2 deal and it was a free product!

Within 2 hours it literally looked like I hadn’t applied anything. The texture felt awful and just didn’t ever set. No products would stick to it at all. So, overall rubbish product.

Tanya Burr Cosmetics: My Escape Palette

Tanya Burr has been one of my favourite beauty youtubers since forever. She creates these beautiful, soft and effortless looks that at the so flattering. She truly is beautiful and I just find all of her tutorial so easy to follow. A few years ago when I found out she had released her own makeup line I jumped at the chance to try some of her products. I especially love the lipgloss in Lunch Date and the Galaxy Eye Palette but she is released a small collection recently and I totally fell in love with the My Escape palette. In particular, the kahki shade. So I bought it and tested it out by creating this smokey look using the quad and decided to give you my review!

Firstly, the shades are gorgeous. It comes with 4 shades, 2 matte and 2 shimmery. The shades start with a shimmery beige (new perspective), a kahki green shimmer (wild jungle), a matte brown with grey undertones (tree tops) and a matte darker grey (master plan).

Truthfully, the shades are lovely but I wish the beige was a white matte shade instead. I like to start my eye looks using a matte white or bone shade all over the lid for a base and new perspective just wouldn’t work since it has too much shimmer. It’s a lovely inner corner highlight but I like to use just one palette that I can create easy and different looks with, but I had to dip into another palette for a matte.

I also like to start with a lighter transition shade and this palette doesn’t have that. I ended up using the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette for a long transition shade before going back into the Tanya Burr palette with tree tops.

I started with a bone shade across the lid to set down the concealer. I went in with a pale pink toned shad in the crease and then packed on wild jungle (kahki shade) across the lid. I used tree tops in the crease and only went half way across, mainly focusing on the outer corner and constantly building it. I used clean brushes to continue to blend and then went back in with wild jungle to intensify the colour. I finished with using master plan on the outta corner and swiping it along the lower lash line.

The shadows are pigmented and incredibly buildable. They do have massive fall-out though so I recommend doing the eye look first as it’s easier to clean up. However, this palette is wonderful and the price is outstanding (£5.99 in Superdrug and on Feel Unique). I recommend this palette highly and I’m eager to test more of her products.

Summer Makeup Look

Summer is here! I love doing seasons makeup looks for you guys and now the time has come for my summer makeup look.

During summer I love a very natural, bronzed look. I don’t use a lot of blushes or highlight at all either. Everything is very soft and neutral which I love for this time of year.

I never want to feel like I’m wearing loads of makeup when I’m in the heat. I find that it melts off my face and makes me feel more hot and sweaty than I feel necessary. I hope you like this look, enjoy!

Base:

Firstly, I started with the Revlon ColourStay Foundation and mixed it with the Stilla Aqua glow perfecting bronzer. I did this to darken the foundation because it was too light for me.

For concealer I used the Maybelline Fit Me for any blemishes and then the Bourjois Radiance Reveal concealer under my eyes to highlight.  Then I set all of this using the Maybelline Super Stay power but only in the places I’ve concealed so I still have that nice glow coming through.

I used only one palette for the rest of my base, the Tanya Burr Rosy Cheek Palette. I bronzed my forehead, cheeks and under my jaw line with this bronzer and added more than usual to look extra summery and tan. I lightly put the blush from the palette on the apples of my cheek (very light, it’s super pigmented) and then dusted the highlight on the high points of my face. I used my beauty sponge to buff everything out and look flawless.

For eyes I only used the bronzer shade from the Tanya Burr palette. I started in the crease and then dusted it all over my lid. I used the highlight for my inner corner and finished with the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.

For my brows I went in with the BBrowbar eyebrow pencil in Indian Chocolate and only filled in the areas that needed doing.

Lips:

I lined my lips with the L’Oreal lip pencil in 302 and buffed it out with fingers. I then filled in my lips with the YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in 218.

There you have it! My finished look. I hope you enjoyed. Check out my social media:

Rimmel Fix and Prime Spray

I have been an all time lover of the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray. Together we are in a long term committed relationship and I’ve been loving it for a very long time. However, I recently come across the Rimmel Insta Fix & Go Setting Spray which I got from Superdrug for £6.99 and I feel like I’ve been having a secret but very happy affair with it and it may continue to go on for a very long time.

This product is a primer and setting spray which I love. I always like to apply my Maybelline Baby Primer and allow that to sink in and then spray the Rimmel Fix and Spray evenly across my face. I find that the best technique is to apply it in a cross shape in the air and let it settle onto the skin and wait for it to dry. It applies very quickly and it doesn’t make me look wet at all or overly dewy either. It really helps my makeup last a lot longer too. It doesn’t have any scent either which makes me happy since I’m not a huge fan of overly scented products at all.

I will admit, it doesn’t beat the Urban Decay setting spray but I do think it’s a brilliant and affordable alternative in the drugstore. It’s definitely ideal for beginners and would be an excellent product for those on a budget. The biggest issue that I have with this is the spriz on the botle top, I find that it doesn’t spray enough and I have to spend a fair while ensuring that it’s applied to the whole of my face. Admittedly,  it does work better with the crossing technique but a better spritz would definitely make this the perfect product.
