Berry Christmas

Lush have the best gift sets regardless of the time of year but at Christmas they’re just extra special. This year I purchased the Berry Christmas gift set for £23! Lush gift sets are ideal for those not looking for full sized products and really want to sample some that you may have never used.

I think they’re a lovely gift for Christmas, birthdays or any occasion really. I especially like how this one has a selection of scents and the products large enough to really sample how good they are! Berry Christmas has 2 shower gels, 1 body lotion and a 120g portion of soap.

Berry Berry Christmas shower gel has a sweet orange and bergamot oil scent. It really does remind me of the winter and Christmas season and I love that leaves small amounts of glitter. It’s beautiful and a small bit goes a long way!

The other shower gel in this set is the well loved Snow Fairy! I do like the bubblegum breeze a lot and whenever I use it I always feel more clean than usual and rather enthusiastic. The sweet scents just make me so happy!

The Once Upon A Time body lotion has the most beautiful apple scent, it’s not too strong and feels incredible on the skin. It’s not greasy feeling, dries quickly and leaves the skin feeling really soft and hydrated. I wouldn’t use this on the face at all as I find it quite heavy. However, the consistency and formula is beautiful for the body!

Finally, the 120g block of Baked Alaska Soap is gorgeous. I’ve always been hit and miss with the Lush soaps as some are lovely and others just don’t agree with my skin. My favourite is the black Coal soap that literally makes my body feel so clean and nourished every time I use it. I’ve not really used this soap that often to give it a full review but I do know that the scent screams Christmas and festive season at you!

I think this gift set is perfect for so many people and in particular those who are new to Lush and aren’t sure what to purchase. The sizes are worth £23 and I really do encourage all of you to go and pick up a gift set from your nearest Lush store.

What Am I Thankful For?

Blogmas day 24! It’s Christmas Eve and I just can’t believe how we have gotten here so quickly. This time of year is beautiful, it really does allow you to think of all the things you’re grateful for and how appreciative you are of life.

This year, I’m so thankful for change. Some people are afraid of change and I know I was as well, but this year, I embraced it. I graduated from my first degree, started my second in a new town, new university and begun creating a new life for myself. I’ve met some incredible people and I’ve had the best first semester ever. I threw myself in the deep end and started to experience the uni life I never really had in Aberystwyth.

With that in mind, I’m grateful for my grandmother. This year she’s had all sorts thrown at her and she has fought her way through it all. Taken it all in her stride and not let it get her down. Each day I realise that she’s the reason I’m working so hard to better myself. She’s a real inspiration and someone I’m so incredibly grateful to have in my life.

My niece and nephew are growing up so quickly, Gracie recently turned 7 and Ethan is due to turn 2 next month. It’s so amazing to have the honour of watching these little ones grow and develop into the most wonderful children ever. They’re experiencing childhood to the full and have the most amazing people in their lives to help them achieve whatever they want. They’re beautiful and I love them so much!

However this year, I’m most thankful for my mum. We haven’t always had the best bond, we haven’t always been close. To be honest, we’ve fought and battled with each other for years. Until this year, I experienced my first heartbreak and my mum was my absolute rock through it all. I was devastated and she helped me through everything. Something I never thought I would ever see her do. I do think she’s finally realised that I’m an adult now and she hadn’t been able to let me go for so long. But now she has, we’re closer than ever. I couldn’t imagine my mum not being in my life even when she’s being the biggest pain in the ass. This year I am so grateful to have had her help me and guide me through everything I’ve needed her for.

Beauty Gift Guide

Each year I impatiently await the releases of any beauty items and spend a long carefully considering my options between drugstore and high end. I know I’m not the only one who does this and each year I find things that I wouldn’t necessarily buy myself but I do give them as ideas to others.

Beauty gifts are always a safe gift to purchase, whether it’s for your friend, girlfriend, grandmother, wife or daughter, there is something for everyone. This year I’ve picked a few things that I would like and I thought you guys may want to use as ideas for your friends and family. Remember, these gifts don’t necessarily have to be for females as makeup is for all genders!

I have selected a few items from drugstore to high end so there is a variety of prices to pick from. The first for me and the one that got me the most excited, is the Benefit The Great Brownaza. It is essentially a box full of 5 full sized brow products from Benefit. I’ve done a review on this already s be sure to check it out. It costs £49.50 and has around £120 worth of products which is a total bargain! If you can pick one up, I highly recommend it.

Next is the Kat Von D London is Calling Vol 2 set. For £19.50 you receive the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovecraft, Studded Kiss lipstick in Mercy and the Tattoo Liner in black. I especially like this product because all of Kat Von D products are free from animal cruelty and the price of this set isn’t too high at all considering it’s bought in Debenhams.

I speak so highly of this years Tanya Burr Cosmetics Christmas collection this year. I really enjoy the makeup line that she has created over the past few years as it’s a decent brand and the formula of the products is absolutely fantastic. This year I bought the Jingle and Mingle night set which is a combination of 3 eye shadows, a liner, lip gloss, bronzer and glitter pot. It’s £18 from Superdrug and I think it’s a lovely set for any age range and skin tone.

img_1728-1

Something I personally have had my eye on this year is the Makeup Revolution Ultimate Nudes Brush Collection, as I’m writing this it’s £25 but the original price is £50. Although it’s likely to stay at a discounted price. With the set you receive 9 brushes and a silicone makeup applicator. I purchased the Christmas brush collection last year and I highly recommend these brushes. They don’t shred at all, they’re so soft and really do apply makeup effortlessly. These are also ideal first makeup brushes for those teenagers who are just starting out!

I had a browse on the Beauty Bay website and come across the Zoeva Plaisir Box for £48. I absolutely love the Zoeva eyeshadows, they’re fantastic quality and dependant on where you get them from, they aren’t all that expensive. In this set you get 3 eyeshadow palettes which each hold 10 shadows. So you’re receiving 30 eyeshadow of an amazing quality. These come as a set but also as individuals if you wish (I think Cult Beauty stock them individually) and I think they’re the most gorgeous colours that can cater for all types of looks.

Plaisir Box

Again, from Beauty Bay for those lipstick lovers. Ofra Cosmetics have The Lip Affair Collection for an amazing £30. This set comes with 3 liquid lipsticks in Laguna Beach (a baby pink tone), Milan (a burgundy) and Manhattan (a nude pink). What more could a girl want? They’re long lasting, the formula is creamy and not drying and most of all, you’re getting 3 beautiful lipstick shades for a great price.

The Lip Affair Collection

Real Techniques are widely loved across the world for their high quality, low price brushes and makeup tools. In fact, their brushes and sponges are my absolute favourite. In Superdrug the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge comes in a pack of 6 for around £24.99! Bargain if you ask me. Only a few weeks ago they were selling these packs for £12!! If this deal is still on, you’ve got yourself a steal. Although let’s be fair, you’re saving money by buying them as a pack of 6 anyway!

A final one from Makeup Revolution is the 8 pan amplified highlighting palette. This palette has the most incredible shade selection for highlights and eyeshadows and can definitely cater for so many skin tones. Honestly, for £15 you cannot go wrong with this palette. Everyone knows Makeup Revolution is one of the best drugstore brands around right now and this product is a winner in my eyes.

These are the beauty items I highly recommend for those beauty lovers out there! There are such a variety of beauty gift sets on the market right now and if you’re stuck for ideas I hope that I’ve helped.

Favourite Books of 2017

Happy blogmas day 20!

2017 is finishing and I’ve read a lot of books this year. Truthfully, I do like to try and review every single book I read but honestly, I don’t always get the chance or simply, I don’t do it. I don’t review every single book because well 1. They might be rubbish and so bad that I don’t care to review them. 2. Life gets in the way and University is a priority so instead of uploading a review I might just upload a post that’s been in my drafts for a while (lazy yes, practical yes). This year I have read my fair share of books, just like I do every year so I have carefully gathered my 8 favourite books of 2017, I hope you enjoy. Fortunately for you, I have written reviews on all of these books so go ahead and click on the links, they’ll take you to where you need to go for the review.

We Were on a Break – Lindsey Kelk

White Lies and Wishes – Cathy Bramley

The Girl with The Lower Back Tattoo– Amy Schumer

The One We Fell in Love with – Paige Toon

Diary of a Fat Girl – Moira Mugweni

All the Bright Places – Jennifer Niven

The Break Down –  B.A Paris

Harry Potter 1-7 (ignore Order of the Phoenix because that’s crappy) – J.K Rowling

Share with me some of your favourites to add to my 2018 reading collection.

Soap and Glory Mask Review

Blogmas day 14 gives you a full review on the Soap and Glory 2-in-1 Pore Purifying Mask and Peel!

I’ve been testing this product out for around 6 weeks now. I purchased mine in Boots, on a whim whilst it was around £6.60, although the usual price is at the £10 mark. This is definitely the most expensive face mask I’ve ever purchased but I had read so many positive reviews on it, I just couldn’t help myself. It really helped that it was also on sale as it made the decision to buy it, a lot easier!

img_2265

This mask is specifically allocated for those with oily/combination skin, which I definitely do have. The box says you’re supposed to massage into the face and focus on the t-zone. Now, I don’t like the texture of this mask at all so I do use it with a brush and once it is on my face I like to gently run circular motions around my face to really let the product sink in.

It does give you the option of just leaving it for 5 minutes to give you a quick refreshed look. Otherwise, you’re able to leave the mask on for around 15 minutes to give your skin a deep clean and you can do either of these from 1-3 times a week. I only really use the mask twice a week as I find that it has helped so much. At first I was using it 3 times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. However as the weeks have gone by I’ve started to reduce the days because I don’t feel like I need it as much. I do leave it on for 15 minutes at a time though and normally apply before I go in the shower so I can use the hot water to really rinse it off.

img_2264

I was confused when I first applied this product because I assumed that it would dry and become a peel off face mask, which it didn’t do at all. The title says it’s a 2-in-1 facial mask and peel but really, it’s just a standard mask.

However, with that in mind, it has worked amazingly on my skin. I don’t find that my pores get as clogged as they used too anymore. Generally, it just helps to maintain how clean my skin is and really does help to reduce redness and acne. Although, this isn’t a mask that does help to reduce spots completely.

img_2263

I can’t say that this mask has changed my life but I do honestly believe that it really does help to remove any dirt from the skin and just help to create a healthy refreshed look. The texture of my skin does feel better when I use it and I do like that I have the option to pick whether I want to use it for 5 or 15 minutes, dependant on what I really want.

img_2262

So whether I’m heading out for the night and want something to make my skin feel and look better before applying makeup. Or if I’m spending the night in and want to give myself a good pamper, this face mask is something that I would go too. Especially if you have a problem with pore clogging and oiliness. This mask has really helped to reduce the amount of oil the I have during the day!

Would I say it’s worth £10? Probably not, I’d actually say around the £6 mark but it is Soap and Glory and I trust their products since I know they do work so well (Not all but most).

Have you tried this mask? let me know what you think!

Christmas at the Davies Residence

Christmas is my favourite time of year but I especially enjoy the 3 main days of Christmas with my family. It’s definitely the 1 time a year that we truly get on and put our differences behind us. My mum really tries her hardest every single year to make Christmas the most perfect time of year and without fail she always does.

Her every effort during November and December is to make sure that her family, our family, receive the best Christmas ever. She never fails us. With that in mind, my mum begins to prepare for Christmas in September, which might seem crazy but her first wages in September contributes towards gifts, decorations and food to help us have the most incredible Christmas ever.

For those 3 days, we have the most incredible time. Don’t get me wrong, as a I child we did experience it differently but as an adult, I’m so grateful and appreciate everything at Christmas time and it does help me to realise everything that I am grateful for throughout the year.

Christmas Eve in our house is generally pretty chilled, from the early morning mum  will be preparing and start cooking the meat for our rather large Christmas dinner. Generally, each year we have turkey, beef and chicken to see us through Christmas Day and Boxing Day (you’ll learn why). This might seem a lot but we have a large family and really, can you over eat at Christmas?

Once I’m finally awake I’ll help mum prepare vegetables, sort out the chocolates, crisps etc. For as long as I can remember, mum has always put out chocolates, crisps, nuts and Bombay mix as snacks around the living room and kitchen area. We don’t get to eat these until Christmas Eve afternoon as technically, this is when we start celebrating our Christmas. We also make sure the house is fully clean by the afternoon and perfect ready for when we finally settle down.

By the afternoon when we have finished preparing, we all try and settle down in our Christmas Eve pjs, after having showers and baths, to a Christmas film. My mum visits our neighbour to wish him and his family a merry Christmas so my brother and I like to hang out together, eating snacks and starting celebrating our Christmas.

Mum always works either Christmas Eve morning or Boxing Day morning (sometimes the afternoon) as she works in a residential home. Therefore, we don’t open any gifts until mum comes in from work. So for the morning my brother, sister in law, niece and nephew will go and visit Jade’s family before finally coming to our family home around 11am with some of the kids toys for us to play with them. They’re always so excited so we like to do everything we can to help them have the best Christmas too. We have either Christmas music playing or a Christmas film at all times during December and we try and make sure we don’t eat too much food so we can indulge during the afternoon.

We also like to go and visit my nan whilst mums in work to make sure she’s OK, give her our gifts and spend some time with our relatives! It’s one of my favourite parts of Christmas Day as I’m so grateful that the family all come together. A few minutes before mum comes home I’ll put the vegetables on the hob and start cooking and once mum comes in she’ll take over, the woman is an absolute god.

Then we finally get to open our gifts together and we always let Gracie and Ethan dig in as soon as she gets home as they do get inpatient. Each year we all have our own little corners of the living room and every year, Gracie (my 7 year old niece)  and I share a corner because we just love to open our gifts together and we love to see what each other received. Once everybody has opened our gifts we generally just chill, watch a film and look at all the wonderful things we received before having the most incredible dinner.

We don’t own a table so I always eat my food sat on the floor with the kids but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We all make such a mess of ourselves because well, they’re children and at Christmas, there are no rules. So whether they manage to throw mashed potato everywhere or pinch each other’s food. We don’t mind, as long as they’re happy. Once our food has settled, we don’t stop there.. dessert is everybody’s favourite in our house. Mum always has a massive selection from chocolate cake, cheesecake, profiteroles or fruit bowls. Whatever we want, we get and it’s incredible. After a few hours of lounging around, playing with the kids and enjoying each other’s company (more than likely a little bicker here and there from my brothers and I, we start to play games for the rest of the evening before finally settling down for bed. The kids, Jade and Kyle do go home around 7/8pm to settle the kids down because it will have been a long day for them.

However, Boxing Day in our house is our absolute favourite! At some point during the day we manage to see every single member of our huge family, all our relatives stop by ready for mums infamous homemade chips, cold meat and salad. We love it, it’s a total win in our house and every year the house is filled with love, happiness and total manic. It’s incredible. The kids have the best day spending time with each other (there are many, many children. We have music playing, games going, laughter spreading throughout the house and so much love like you can’t imagine.

Honestly, I couldn’t ever imagine not spending Christmas with this crazy bunch. Most importantly, I’m so incredibly thankful for my mum who every year, manages to make Christmas in the Davies residence an absolute dream.

20 Christmas Traditions

Happy blogmas day 9, friends!

Traditions are a wonderful thing and my family and I definitely have them. No matter when though, a tradition has to form and sometimes it can be difficult for people to decide what they want to introduce to make their Christmas that extra bit special. Whether you have a new born, recently marriage or even have grown children, it’s OK to start introducing new traditions to really change the festivities in your home and lives at Christmas. So, I thought I would share with you guys a list of some Christmas traditions that you might want to introduce to your family this Christmas and for many more.

  1. Leaving the reindeer and Santa a treat. Normally it’s carrots, a cookie and milk or maybe a mince pie!
  2. Matching Christmas jumpers.
  3. Annual family photograph.
  4. Christmas Eve event – maybe ice skating, family meal, Christmas party’.
  5. Fresh Christmas Eve pjs. Doesn’t everybody do this one?
  6. Visiting Santa and his reindeer.
  7. A trip to winter wonderland.
  8. Watching Christmas films.
  9. Wrap 25 books, 1 for each day until Christmas.
  10. A Christmas treasure hunt.
  11. Elf on the shelf! – This one could benefit both parents and children by using the Elf as a kindness Elf that notices all the good things that the children do, leading to a reward.
  12. Driving around to look at the Christmas lights on houses.
  13. Asking your children, nieces/nephews,  cousins to donate some of their toys to the less fortunate.
  14. Christmas cards to your neighbours.
  15. Making a specific dessert that you only make at Christmas time.
  16. A Christmas Eve box, something with fun and little things to open whilst spending time with your loved ones. Generally things like pjs, lush bath bombs, calendars.
  17. Family trip to collect a real Christmas tree.
  18. Decorating the house together as a family.
