Christmas Countdown // Festive Playlist

As a part of my Christmas countdown each Wednesday at 1pm for the next four weeks I’ll be posting a Christmas themed post, this week is my festive playlist, keep reading to check it out. If I’m honest, there’s a chance all my posts may be Christmas themed.. we’ll see!

IT’S ALMOST CHRISTMAS PALS!!! Christmas is approaching and fast. Each year I wonder how Christmas has come around so quickly but this year has flown by, how is it even the 30th of November already?! 2016 slow down. I do feel like now I’m older the years go faster, though. I will admit, I’m one of those people that start playing Christmas music from November 1st. It’s just who I am, I’m pretty certain I was an elf in my past life. My Christmas playlist is on repeat and I love it, it makes me so festive and excited for the upcoming holiday. It especially makes me excited because I live away from home and I’m able to look forward to going home with my family and celebrate the holidays. Let’s get right into it!

Fairytale of New York: The Pogues (how can you not love this one?)

Do They Know It’s Christmas Time: Band Aid 30

Santa Claus is Coming To Town: Bruce Springsteen

Frosty the Snowman: Gene Autry

All I Want For Christmas is You: Mariah Carey

It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas: Michael Buble

Blue Christmas: Elvis Presley

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Johnny Mathis

Rudolf The Red Nose Reindeer: Gene Autry (Gracie and I love to sing this together)

Driving Home For Christmas: Chris Rae

Winter Wonderland: Tony Bennett

These are without fail the songs that I always listen too throughout the Christmas period and especially on the train home from Aberystwyth to begin my Christmas festivities. These songs just get me so excited. I’m like a child, it’s fab. Let me know your favourite festive songs!

November Favourites

November favourites time! This year has flown by, I can’t believe we’re already heading into December. Not that I’m complaining because I love Christmas. Throughout the month of November I’ve been loving a few little bits and I’m so happy to share them with you guys!

Let’s get all things beauty out of the way! Firstly, I purchased the newly released L.A Girl Foundation in fair. I already know I love the concealer and have purchased so many tubes of this over the years but I was slightly sceptical about this product. However, it surprised me and it’s fab. I’ve been really enjoying using this foundation and I can definitely see me repurchasing it. It sits beautifully on the face and it’s only £9! Super affordable and I just love the brand. I got mine from Beauty Bay.

I’ve also been loving these new Essence Blushes, I have one matte shade and one satin shade and oh my god, they’re excellent. I got these in Wilkinson for £1!! I definitely didn’t think these would be good at all, I assumed they wouldn’t have much pigment or be long wearing but they’re totally opposite. My favourite is the satin blush in satin love and they’re sooo pigmented and they blend beautifully. They have definitely encouraged me to try more from essence.

One beauty product i’m always looking for is a new face powder. I’m quite fussy when it comes to powders as I have dry patches and some powders stick to it. However, the Revlon Photoready Powder is fantastic. It literally makes you photo ready. I’ve been combining this powder and the L.A Girl foundation and they create such a beautiful dewy look. I only use a small amount as I’ve not been feeling the matte look but it’s so lovely and lightweight. It feels like i’m wearing nothing at all.

TEEN WOLF IS BACK!! During April/May 2016 I binge watched Teen Wolf seasons 1 – 5 in like 2 weeks, I was obsessed. Since I caught up to date I’ve been waiting for so long for the new season and just as I fell in love with the show and they decide to finish it on season 6. What a surprise, ugh. So for now I’ll appreciate the time I have left with the show and re-watch it when I need a little bit of Dylan O’Brian on my screen. It’s such a good show and admittedly it’s quite cheesy in bits but who doesn’t love a bit of cheese? I’m so happy it’s back and now I have something to be excited for on my Tuesday evenings.

Another show that has returned is I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, each year I wait for this show to come back mainly because it’s like a countdown to Christmas. I love the amusement of the show and the arguments simply make the winter nights more fun. What more could I want than to see random celebrities eat testicles and anus?

There you have it! These are the things I’ve been loving this month. What’s your November faves?

Book Review: Behind Closed Doors

This weeks book review is so exciting, this book was absolutely brilliant. It’s the novel Behind Closed Doors by B.A Paris. For more book reviews look back at my previous ones or check them out every Friday at 1pm.

Jack and Grace seemed to live the perfect happy wife. Jack, the ideal husband with the most loving and kind heart and perfect Grace, the devoted Wife. On the outside they look like they live the most normal and happy life but behind closed doors, their lives are far from normal and happy. Jack has hidden his urges for so long and once he met Grace he knew she was the one to make his dreams come true. If someone doesn’t stop him, who knows how far he’ll go to get what he wants.

Its utterly fantastic and brilliantly written. This thriller kept me wanting more and more, it was almost impossible for me to put it down. Parts of it was heartbreaking but it was totally captivating. The best thriller I’ve read this year, in fact for a long time. I recommend it if you enjoy a mystery, thriller that will be make you want more. Grace’s Sister was truly delightful and her part in the book was devastating and really broke my heart. By the end of the book you’ll become more aware and saddened by those who have to deal with abuse in real life. It’s excellent, truly fantastic and by far one of the best books I have read this year, and I’ve read a lot.

If you liked this one, I recommend:

Gone Girl- Gillian Flynn

Girl on the Train- Paula Hawkins

Beauty Haul & Reviews

Hi, guys!

Over the past few months I have accumulated a lot of new beauty products that I just had to share with you. My student loan is supporting my addiction to shopping and I’m so thankful to Student Finance Wales for helping me buy all these fantastic new items. Im just going to get right into it, there’s a lot! Get yourself a cuppa and sit cosy. You’ll be here a while.

Starting with an repurchase because I simply cannot tell you guys how much you need this lipstick for the Autumn/Winter season. If you haven’t already guessed, it’s the Rimmel by Kate Moss 107. Ughhhh this lipstick is to die for. It’s literally the ideal lip colour throughout this time of year and I repeatedly fall in love with it every year. The colour is a beautiful dark red with slight purple undertones, it’s such a pretty wine colour and the formula is so creamy and buttery. For a super long lasting lipstick you can’t go wrong with the price, only £5.49 in Superdrug. Check it out here. I love this colour so much, it’s my current go to.

As we all know I love a good face mask and when I had seen L’Oreal had introduced them Clay Masks I’ve been super excited to try them. There are three types, red to exfoliate and brighten, green to combat oily skin and black to purify. Fortunately I’ve been able to test out all three masks  and I loved them. I only used the green one on my t-zone but it made so much difference to how my skin looks and feels. It also helped my make up to sit perfectly on my face. The red is to brighten and exfoliate, it does exactly what it says. I also use the black one all over my face as it helps to to create a more clean and hygrated skin. My face is so soft and glowing after using the mask and it’s makes me skin so hydrated too. Check out here for the red mask, here for the green mask and here for the black. I’ll definitely be purchasing the black mask soon.

Keeping in theme with L’Oreal who recently introduced their Micellar Water. I’ve been a huge fan of the Garnier Micellar Water for over a year now and I’ve never found any other product as good as it. Until now. It’s designed to remove makeup smoothly and softly whilst hydrating the skin. It doesn’t pull my skin or irritate my eyes and it helps my eye makeup to rub off with no issues. It’s an absolute dream to work with. Check on Superdrug, here.

Morphe Brushes are a popular brand and are promoted by so many bloggers and Youtubers. I come across the Morphe Brushes 600 set on Beauty Bay for £11.25, Look here. It has 12 brushes and comes in a pouch to store them. I think they’re a brilliant purchase and are a great contribution towards my collection of brushes. They’re so soft and easy to work with, definitely ideal for beginners. I personally love the powder brush as it distributes powder evenly across my face and doesn’t leave any streaks or lines. They’re a great buy!

Another lip product that I bought is the Gerard Cosmetics lipgloss in Maneater. Check here, I got mine from Beauty Bay for £8.50. It’s super glossy and another colour that will be excellent throughout this time of year. It’s slightly darker than the Rimmel 107 but when combined together it creates the most perfect look. I don’t enjoy the gloss on it’s own, mainly because it causes such a mess when eating or drinking and ends up all around my mouth and looks like an utter disaster. Other than that, it’s got a beautiful formula and is soft on the lips. Really looking forward to wearing this throughout winter time.

I also made a small order from The Body Shop. There was an online deal that took away £25 from a £50 order and included free delivery, how could I resist! I had so many things I wanted to buy but managed to only purchase four items. Firstly, the Fresh Body Sorbet in Pink Grapefruit, click here to check it out. I wasn’t entirely sure what this product was at first and I was so interested by it. I later discovered it’s a fancy moisturiser with a fancy name. It’s bloody lush though. I begun using this when I fractured my wrist and the cast was making my arm smelly (possible tmi?), but it worked and it made my arm smell and my skin feel so soft. Eventually I started using it all over my body and it’s the best thing ever. Super soft, super hydrating and I like it a lot.

Over the summer I visited one of The Body Shop stores and come across the Seaweed face moisturiser. It’s said to be useful for oil-control and sensitive skin. It’s incredibly soft to use and feels so refreshing on my skin. It’s also such a fantastic base for makeup to sit on and I’ve been really enjoying this moisturiser. This retails for £12 and apparently it works so well with the Tea Tree Oil.

I also purchased the Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter. I got this because of Zoella’s recommendations, but it also smells and feels fantastic. It’s supposed to be used as a gentle makeup remover. I haven’t used this yet because of my wrist but I’m looking forward to trailing it. This was £10 and is such a large tub, super inexpensive in my eyes.

The final item I bought from The Body Shop is the British Rose Palette. This palette was £20, it consists of 6 eye shadows and 2 blusters. The palette ranges from day time tones and you can dress it up at night with a smokey look. It’s beautiful, the shadows blend so well and they’re so pigmented with little fall down. I like it a lot and totally recommend it.

I purchased the L.A Girl Pro Conceal in Porcelain years ago and still love the product as much as I did the first time. I thought it was time to try colour correcting so I got the L.A Girl Pro Conceal in Green to combat my blemishes and imperfections. I’ve read that it’s a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Concealer in green, I haven’t tried the UD concealer but I can say I love the L.A Girl concealer and it’s more than likely going to be repurchased! I got mine from Amazon for £3 and it’s such a brilliant purchase.

I also come across the L.A Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Gloss in Secret. Much like the Rimmel 107 it’s a dark red, wine like colour and is super mystifying. The biggest issue with it is that when it dries, it feels tacky and sticky on the lips. It also transfers onto everything, literally everything. It’s quite messy and leaves a slight stain. The colour is beautiful I just wish the formula was slightly better. However for £3.50 you can’t go wrong.

My wonderful Matt  picked me up a few gifts from Beauty Bay for our anniversary. I’ve had my eye on the Zoeva Cool Spectrum Palette for a little while now and for £15 I couldn’t believe how cheap it was. It has 18 colours from mattes to shimmers and includes natural daytime wearing shades and some that can spice up your eye look ready for a night out. The shadows are so pigmented and easy to blend. It’s a fantastic palette and I can’t wait to use it for a all over glam look.

Matty also got me Morphe Brushes Blush Palette in 9B for 15.95. It’s beautiful, I’m totally in love with it. Blushes are something I never really buy but now I’ve got 9 large pans of blushes so I’m probably good for a little while. It’s a lot larger than I thought it would be and has a variety of mattes and shimmers. It makes me super happy! They’re so pigmented and the palette will go with so many looks. It’s gotten me a lot more excited for the Morphe 350 Eyeshadow Palette to be back in stock.

The final item Matt bought me is the Milani 2 in 1 Conceal and Perfect Foundation. I’ve had my eye on this foundation for so long and I never got around to getting it. It was £10 on Beauty Bay and I got mine in the shade Creamy Vanilla which is the what I believe to be the lightest shade. It’s such full coverage and has such a pretty, dewy finish. I’ve been really enjoying this foundation but I think I need to use it a bit more for my full review.

This post is so long, if you’ve gotten this far well done! I hope you liked this post and found my reviews useful.

DIY // Face Masks

When I first started my blog I had purchased some face masks and began to understand why people loved them so much. Having been new to face masks I wasn’t sure what to expect and whether they were just a gimmick, I was wrong. They’re fab. However, I’m aware that they can be very expensive and sometimes not worth breaking the bank for.

Truthfully, face masks have become a necessity in my skin care because they help to brighten and make my skin glow, reduce my acne, pores, and blackheads and simply allow my make up to sit better on my face. What more could you want?

For us people on a budget or those simply looking to have some fun,  DIY face masks are the way forward. Using natural ingredients that you’re likely to already have in your kitchen you can create your own face masks and save penny’s whilst having fun!

So, I’ve spent the last few weeks creating and testing out some DIY face masks. The ones I’ve mentioned are the ones I believe actually work and are worth creating, however, go ahead and try out some others. Take a look on Pinterest for some inspiration and get creating the perfect face mask.

Mask #1:

I was looking for a mask that would brighten and illuminate my skin as a glowy base for my make up or just for every day when I don’t want to wear make up. I mixed 1 TBSP of coconut oil and 1 TSP of baking soda to help my skin look brighter and make it so soft. Apply the mask and gently rub in circular motions for 2-3 minutes, remove with warm water and pat dry.  It’s as easy as that! If you don’t have any coconut oil it can be purchased from Amazon or in Boots for less than £5 and it also a useful and harmless way to remove makeup naturally.

Mask #2:

I’m prone to acne and my face is often red and has blemishes. I was looking for a mask that helped to decrease blemishes and redness as well as reduce current acne and prevent it too. This mask will also help with fine lines and wrinkles but most importantly helps to create a healthy and nourished skin. I mixed 1 TBSP of coconut oil and a pinch of turmeric. This combination will reduce any imperfections as well as allow the skin to feel healthier and look more nourished. Apply for 15 minutes, rinse with cold water and pat dry.

Mask #3:

As I said before, I’m prone to acne and pimples and my skin is quite sensitive. I was looking for a mask that would be gentle on my skin but also fight against acne and pimples. I mixed 1 TBSP of coconut oil and 2 TBSP of honey to create this mask. You should apply it for 20 minutes, rinse with cold water and then pat dry.

I used each of these masks 3 times a week to see a difference and I definitely did. I loved how soft and replenished my skin was and how beautiful these masks allowed my make up to sit. They’re also super fun to make and don’t break the bank at all.

Let me know your favourite face masks.

Book Review: We Are All Completely Besides Ourselves

Another weekly book review, remember to check them out every Friday at 1pm. This weeks review is by far the weirdest of them all, it’s by the author Karen Joy Fowler and is called, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. Usually when I begin a new book I’ve normally finished it within a few days, except this one. This one took me near two weeks to read and not because it was boring or didn’t make me enthusiastic. It did, in fact whenever I picked it up I would be reading for ages. However, once I had read a few chapters I found that I had to put it down for a few days for the story line and information to actually sink in. I got all types of confused about this book.

The story is told by Rosemary, daughter of a psychologist. Now 22 years old and in college Rosemary begins to think more and more about her beloved brother, Lowell and sister, Fern. Realising that in order to move on she must make peace with her past and begin to relive the time at 5 years old, having been sent home from her grandparents to find Fern gone.

Now, you’ve probably read the above paragraph thinking there is the possibility that both siblings somehow died, possible kidnapping etc. Well stop, you’re wrong. I don’t want to give too much away in case some of you are really interested in this book. However, what I will say is that this book is 308 pages of utter confusion but totally captivating and brilliantly written. It’s so smart and gripping, the intelligence is overwhelming. I do think i’m probably going to re-read this overtime just because it was so educating. Recommend to those who love anything educational or psychological!

My First YSL Lipstick

I finally made my first high-end purchase on a new YSL Lipstick and I have zero regrets. In fact, I’m over the moon because it’s beautiful and I love it a whole bunch. I’ve been interested in buying one for so long and I’m forever seeing them on other bloggers posts. I bought it from House of Fraser for £23.40 (Normal price £26).

I got mine in the Rouge Pur Couture The Mats collection in the shade 218 Coral Remix. It’s so perfect, the ideal simple nude with pink/beige tones. It leaves a matte finish and it so creamy to wear. Extremely light weight and is comfortable and long wearing. It’s exactly what I want in a lipstick and I’m so pleased with my choice of luxury lipstick.

I think it’s such a lovely contribution to my makeup collection. I will definitely purchase another at some stage too!  The pictures don’t do it enough justice at all.

Autumnal Look // Makeup

Throughout the Autumn season I love those burgundy lips and the browns smokey eye but each year I definitely mix up my make up. This year I have had this go to makeup look throughout the whole season and just had to share it with you all. I’ll even show you all the products I use and I’ll also add in a dupe of the Naked 3 palette which cost only £4! I’m totally in love with this makeup look and I think it’s so fitting for the season and can work with so many outfits for day or nightwear.

I started by priming my face with the NYX Photo Loving Primer. I personally love a full coverage foundation, I have so much redness and freckles on my face I just prefer to cover it up. I used the Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation for this look, in the shade 1.0. It’s so lightweight and absolutely full coverage, I used 1 pump for my whole face and it sits beautifully and all day long.

I then used the Maybelline Fit Me concealer in 10 Fair to cover those dark circles and topped it with the Collection Perfection concealer in 1 to highlight my under eye.

To bronze my face and bring some dimension to it, I used the Benefit Hoola Bronzer and a bit of the Revolution Iconic Lights and Contour Pro palette to do so.

Topping it off, I then used the Kate Moss Sculpting Palette in Coral Glow 002 and used the blush to add colour to my cheeks.

To finally complete the base, I used the Sleek Highlight Palette in solstice,  for that extra glow to the high points of my face including my cheek bones, cupids bow and bridge of my nose.

I used the Iconic 3 palette by Revolution to make this eye look, it’s a cheap £4 and is absolutely a dupe of the Naked 3 palette. It’s super pigmented and long lasting, the shimmery colours are so sparkly and pretty on the eye and I just love it. If you’re looking for a dupe of the Naked palettes, head to Superdrug or online for the Revolution Iconic palettes. They’re fab! I took the palette and used the orange shimmery colour all over my lid, this is the dupe for the colour ‘trick’ and then I used the brown shade next to it in my crease, the dupe for ‘nooner’.

I then put a thin line and flick for eyeliner using the Rimmel Glam’ Eyes liquid liner.

I curled my lashes and then coated them in the Kiko Extra Sculpt Volume Mascara on my upper lashes and then the Benefit Roller Lash on my lower lashes.

I usually put a bit of the brown shade from the palette underneath my lower lashes too but this is entirely your choice. I then used the lightest shade from the palette underneath my brow bow and inner corner. I used the Maybelline Brow Drama on my brows and then I was finished!

I coated my lips in a gloss by Sephora, it doesn’t have a name but it’s a nude pink and I think it looks beautiful with the eyes. However, to complete this look you can use any nude lipstick with this look.

The lip gloss I used is from the Sephora collection brand and is in a limited edition palette which includes 96 x eyeshadows, 84 x lip glosses, 1 bronzer, 1 x mascara, 6 x cream eyeliners and 2 x eyeliners.

There is the finished look! I’m not a professional makeup artist and nor will I ever claim to be. It’s simply an interest and hobby for me and I love to experiment with new products and keep up with the seasonal trends. If you liked this post let me know and I’ll do more in the future.

Barcelona & Salou, Spain // 2016

At the beginning of our summer, Matt and I went on our first holiday to Spain. We spent 5 days in Salou and then 4 days in Barcelona. It was amazing, it was the best first holiday we could have had and I’m so looking forward to another trip away with my handsome. Barcelona is a busy, busy place. It’s bloomin’ huge! but regardless of the size, it’s a beautiful place and is full of history, stories, and imagination. It has the most gorgeous little streets and the people are so polite and welcoming. It really is a truly captivating place. The best thing about Barcelona was definitely the fountains, they’re on every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening and are fabulous. Sagrada Familia was fantastic and represents so much history of the city and Park Guell was amazing, in such a stunning location and is a beautiful area to relax and embrace the Spanish culture.

The food is to die for as well, we fell in love with this little restaurant in Cap Salou, called Smugglers. They do the best pulled-pork nachos and my mouth waters every time I think about them. We actually spent a fair bit of time in Port Aventura Theme Park and Water Park, they were the highlight of our trip for me. I love theme parks and water rides and lazy rivers are just the best things when you’re in the sun all day. If you ever get to visit, my favourite ride was Shambala. You should check it out, it’s so smooth and fun to ride and the views are even nicer.
