What’s In My Suitcase

I’m heading away in just 1 week and because I’m so incredibly organised I started packing weeks ago (just can’t help myself) and I thought I would take you through what I’ve packed with me to take away on my trip. As I am working with children on a summer camp all summer I made sure to pack plenty of things that I’ll need to keep me going throughout working but also a few items that I’ll need for when I’m travelling after and when I have days off. I

I made sure to take at least a 8 days worth of clothing but I will be wearing a staff t-shirt (I have 8) every single day so I don’t really need many t-shirts but I did take 8 just for when I travel. I also have my clothes washed weekly so I’ve taken 8 to make sure I have 1 day’s worth of clothing whilst the others are being washed. Each member of staff were given a recommended packing list which I have actually taken into account so I’ll just jump straight into it.

  • 8 pairs of shorts.
  • 8 t-shirts.
  • 1 pair of sports leggings.
  • 1 pair of jeans.
  • 14 pairs of underwear.
  • 20 pairs of socks (highly recommended because they go missing).
  • 1 Zipped hoodie.
  • 2 pairs of trainers.
  • 1 pair of walking boots.
  • 1 pair of sandals.
  • 1 towel.
  • 1 raincoat.
  • 2 swimming suits.
  • 2 bikinis (for after camp as we aren’t allowed to wear them in camp).
  • 3 dress outfits for the evenings: 2 dress, 1 skirt, 1 playsuit.

There is a optional list of personal items that include things like a flashlight, sleeping bag and linens but these are things I’ll purchase when I arrive and dispose of before heading back to the UK.

Personal items:

  • Sunglasses (packed in carry on).
  • Baseball cap.
  • Backpack.
  • Waterproof watch (with alarm as we aren’t allowed phones in cabins).
  • Toiletries + makeup.

I haven’t bothered to pack a hairdryer or straightener because I don’t think I’m going to have time to straighten and dry my hair all the time. I have packed elastics and hair bobbles though because my hair will mostly be up all the time or in braids. I haven’t packed as much as I probably could have because I thought I would just go to the Walmart or Target and get anything I may need like a fan and other things.

Weekend Makeup Kit

Going away for a few days can often be quite daunting for us makeup lovers who feel like we can’t go a few days without a full glam makeup look, but you can. Believe me. I recently went away and thought I would show you guys what I took and used to create a nice but natural look which I was happy with for the few days that I was gone.

Firstly, I took such a small beauty bag and still managed to fit a lot in it. I’ll start off with the base, I always, always, always add moisturiser and I’ve been using the First Aid Beauty Daily Face Cream for this which is totally oil free. I like to use a primer and to some, this isn’t totally necessary. However, I find that I really struggle with intense pores so I included the Maybelline Baby Skin Primer which really helps to keep my makeup lasting all day long and fresh for longer. Depending on whether I can be bothered, if I have the time or what look I’m going for I may only use a concealer or for a little extra, I will use foundation. So I took both because I still use concealer whether I’ve added foundation or not. So I used the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation for when I want a little extra coverage. However, I also took the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer for the days when I just want to cover my dark circles and little blemishes but I also took the Bourjois Radiance Concealer for when I have used foundation to highlight my under eyes. I also took the Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Matte Powder (Promise this post isn’t sponsored by Maybelline) to make sure everything sits nicely throughout the day. I didn’t take any blush at all but I do like to use bronzer to add a bit of colour and dimension to my face so I’ve used the Boujois Bronzing Powder and I took the Sleek Highlight Palette in Solstice because I simply cannot live without a bit of glow to my face.

For eyes, I literally only took a mascara and I used the travel sized version of the Smashbox X-Rated Volumising Mascara which I’ve been loving and I think it adds so much life to the eyes. For brows, I took Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in Shade 4 and the Sleek Clear Brow Gel. If I do want to add a little something to the eyes I’ll take some of the bronzers and put it through the crease and a highlight from the Sleek palette on my inner corner.

Finally, for lips, I only took the Nivea Original Lip Balm since I knew I was not going anywhere particularly special in which I would need to look a little extra glam.

I packed this bag to cater for the weekend I was going to have and I totally recommend before packing you should consider if you’re going to any events, whether you have a special occasion and want to look a little fancier. You don’t want to be carrying unnecessary items with you and not bothering to use them.

Travel Essentials

My trip is coming around fast so I’ve started getting my things together to pack and prepare for my time in America. Whilst organising my things I realised that I have several things that are an absolute essential for me to take away with and I simply can’t travel without them.

I do find myself getting bored on long haul flights, I also feel very anxious and I generally feel quite run down and just a bit gross towards the last few hours of the flight. Planes have many germs and being very close to people for so long just makes me a bit drained and a little smelly, not going to lie.

Since this is the case I cannot travel without some hand sanitizer and hydrating must. This may seem unnecessary to most but to me these items just make me feel a bit more refreshed and awake. Every so often I’ll use the hand sanitizer as I’ll be touching the arm rests and other things. I’ll always definitely use this when I’ve been to the toilet and eaten as well. I don’t have a germ phobia but I just find by doing this throughout the flight just makes me feel a bit better when I land. I don’t ever wear makeup on long haul flights either but I’ll use a hydrating mist to make my skin feel more awake and refreshed. I find nothing worse than landing in an airport and instantly feeling dry skin.

I also like to travel with a book, I can get through a book in a few hours and being on a plane for 8+ hours means that I can entertain myself when a new novel. Once I’ve landed I’ll then donate this book to someone else or I’ll pop into a charity shop (if I can find one). I haven’t picked one to take yet but I’ll be sure to instagram it at _bbbbethan.

I also like to travel with snacks, some savoury and some sweets. Plane food isn’t nice at all so if I do have a meal and I don’t like it or find it filling I’ll have snacks available to eat. When I’m in the airport I’ll probably pick up a sandwich, crisps, chewing gum, chocolate and crackers and anything I just fancy.

My final travel necessity is a hoodie/jacket. After a while I do get really cold so I like to have a cosy hoodie to relax me and feel warmer!

The OA // Worth Watching?

I tend to mix between books and TV series quite often and after reading several books I decided it was time to start watching something new. So as I do, I headed to Netflix and seen that they had added some new shows and movies and among all the options I came across The OA remembering that so many people had been talking about it on Twitter I made the choice to give it a go. It’s newly released with only 1 series and 8 1 hour episodes.

Prairie Johnson had been missing for 7 years until she was spotted jumping off a bridge. Despite having been blind due to an accident as a child she could see. Prairie now goes by ‘The OA’ instead of her adoptive name and refuses to share any information from her disappearance. In hopes to save others like her she assembles a team of 5 to help her find others who have been experiencing the same situation as her.

So is it worth watching? definitely! I was 12 minutes into the first episode and totally hooked. You think, how is it possible to be to into a show only 12 minutes in? Well, it’s different. Totally different to any other show I’ve ever seen. The OA’s story is like no other and is totally unique which made me even more interested in the rest of her story. Throughout series one you met new characters who bring the story to life and allow you to understand more about the situation. One specific character (a scientist, I won’t spoil it!) really interested me the most as he was someone who could definitely exist in this world. An utter nut job, crazy weird guy.

I think this show is brilliant and I can’t wait for season 2! You guys should definitely watch it and let me know what you think. You’ll definitely like this show if you’ve watched Stranger Things.

Welcome 2017

It’s 2017! Happy New Year everybody!

2016 literally flew by and it only feels like yesterday since I woke up on January 1st 2016 with the biggest hangover of my life. Entering 2017 was no different either, I spent the night with Matt, Mac, Callum, Jack, Foz, Arron, James and Lewis getting very drunk and thoroughly enjoying the last night of 2016. We spent the evening in Aberystwyth town with many others and had a excellent night full of dancing, singing and drinking. I’m not one for nights out but I really enjoyed spending quality time with some of my best friends and specially entering another new year with Matthew by my side.

During the month of December I’ve been thinking about what I want to do to make 2017 a better year. So, for the first time ever I’ve made a few new year’s resolutions, let’s just hope I stick to them. I’ve decided to share them with you guys and throughout the year update you on how I’m getting on with them. It’ll be a total failure if I end up messing them up. I haven’t made too many as I don’t want to be too overwhelmed with trying to maintain them and I’ve made them quite realistic too so that I’ll be able to actually achieve them. So, here is a list of my new years resolutions for 2017, let me know what yours are in the comments.

1-  I’d like to have a more positive outlook on life.

Like most I have a habit of expressing my negativity when I find something or someone has annoyed me. I’d like to be a bit  more positive when it come to things that annoy me. Rather than seeing it as irritating I’d like to have a different outlook on it and think of how things could be worse therefore it’s not as annoying as I would have found it.

2 – Exercise more.

Since being a third year student I find that I’m so busy and I become so stressed very easily. It’s a known fact that exercise can help to reduce stress and help you to become happier and relaxed. Whether it be going to the gym or playing a sport, I would like to spend a few hours a week exercising. This will probably contribute towards my next resolution.

3- Lose a small amount of weight.

As happy as I am with my body, I’d like to lose around a stone in weight for my health. I personally don’t mind being curvy and embrace what I have. I was definitely more confident with my body when I was stone lighter and I’d like to get back to that place before the summer comes around.

4- Be more sociable.

So many people believe that I’m an extrovert but in reality, I’m actually an introvert. I spend a lot of my time alone as I like my own company and I often find being around people for too long quite suffocating. However, I’ve realised that I should make more of an effort to spend time with my friends and go out more (I rarely drink and go on nights out, it’s just not my thing).
