My Favourite Festive lipsticks

Christmas is near and I bloody love it. After all these long months of waiting I can finally show my Christmas spirit. My favourite thing about the festive period is the change in lipsticks, keeping up to date with the seasonal makeup trends is a must for me and a change in lip colour is simply an excuse to add more to my collection. The red lips blossoms throughout this time and I for one will never, ever complain about a red lip. I also love those purple toned reds and taupe shades, I find them so fun to wear and are so good to add some glam to a simple look. For me I have 5 top lip products that I’m loving during the festivities of 2016, in fact two of these have been a statement lipstick for me recently. I don’t know about you guys but I’m always looking for new lip products to add to my on-going collection, in the comments let me know what your favourite lip products are and what’s so special about them.

The Rimmel London, Long Lasting by Kate Lipsticks are my favourite in Superdrug and Boots. They’re so easy to apply and wear, they have the widest selection of colours and are such a creamy formula too. Absolutely brilliant and such a winner in my eyes. They are super inexpensive too which such a pro for all you guys on a budget! The shade 107 is my go to throughout the Autumn and Winter months and so many people rave about this shade and I’ve picked up so many over the years of 107. It’s a signature colour for the colder seasons and this shade especially matches all skin tones and looks so perfect on everybody. It’s so pigmented and creamy, I assumed because its a matte finished that it would be super drying but it definitely isn’t. The colour is so classy and elegant and I’ve never found a wine shade that is as lovely as the 107. It’s also really long lasting and I literally have no complaints with this shade. Throughout the Spring and Summer i’m almost always found wearing Rimmel by Kate Moss lipsticks in the shade 38. They’re available in Superdrug here, check them out for less than £6.

MUA are a growing brand and they’re not known for having the most excellent variety of products but I’ll say that their lip products are wonderful. They have such a wide selection of colours and they’re only £1! I know what you’re thinking, is the quality of the product £1 material? Well no, they aren’t. In fact I would compare them to the Rimmel lipsticks a whole bunch. They’re a creamy formula and are so pigmented, mine is the shade 13 and it’s a bright red. So perfect to match with a smokey eye. It’s not really a blue toned shade at all and I love to wear it for nights out mostly. Take look here. They’re an absolute dream to wear, however if it smudges it can make a bit of a mess. Other than that, I love this shade so much.

Mac Lipsticks are a definite must for any beauty bag, I personally think that everybody should have at least 1 Mac lipstick that is a go to product and they’ll love. For most, Velvet Teddy is their go to Mac Lipstick and I don’t blame them. It’s a natural but beautiful nude and It’s gorgeous to wear. However, for me it has always been Taupe. It was my first ever Mac lip and I will never be without it. It’s a matte finish and is basically a brown-nude shade. I match this with both a natural eye or glam eye. It my favourite lip and it’s also a statement for this time of year. I think it adds so much character to my make up and I personally prefer a Matte lip more than any other formula. It’s available for £15.50 here.

My final favourite lipstick is Lady Danger by Mac, it’s another of my go to lipsticks during the festive season. It’s a orange toned lip and is super bright, especially on my skin tone because I’m so fair. However, it still looks beautiful on darker skin tones too. It’s a matte finish and just like Taupe, it glides on perfectly and stays put for hours. Admittedly, I usually wear this lipstick during evening events because its just a slight bit too bright but I love it regardless. Check it out here.

Thanks for reading! let me know your favourite festive products.

Christmas Countdown // DIY Gifts

I love giving gifts to my loved ones, especially DIY gifts. They’re so personal and these ones are such great stocking fillers. Every year I like to make a little something because I simply enjoy it, I also like to give them to those who will appreciate them the most. Matt is such a sweets type of person so giving him a big jar of sweets is such a good gift for him knowing how much he’ll appreciate the thoughts and effort that has gone into making it. These DIY gifts don’t have to cost a fortune and they can be as big or small as you like. So, here are a few little ideas for DIY Christmas gifts.

Mason jars can purchased in your local £1 shop or only. Totally inexpensive and decorative. They can also be recycled and used to add character to a room. I bought mine in a set of 3 for £2.99.

My first DIY is a sweet jar, as said above Matt loves sweets, so this year I’ll be adding some of his favourite sweets into a mason jar, adding the finishing touch of a ribbon and tag. Of course the ribbon and tag arent essential but it just makes the jar look so festive and pretty. Look below for my example of the sweet jar.

My next DIY is a small beauty hamper. I like small sample sized products a lot, I think they’re fantastic for those who aren’t entirely sure what types of beauty items they like or should be looking for. I’ve made this beauty hamper for a friend. Admittedly, I sort of cheated with this DIY. I used some of the sample sized products I got in my Birchboxes to complete this DIY. These are generally the ones that I don’t particularly like or I feel that another one of my friends would enjoy more. I includes 4 of these products into the jar and rapped a bow around it. Boots and Superdrug also sell small products if you’re interested in this DIY but don’t have the Birchbox subscription.

Around Christmas time so many stores sell hot chocolate sets, this is all well and good but a lot of the time they cost so much money. Why not make your own? I got a mug from B&M for £1 and filled it with my favourite hot chocolates and small marshmallows. Totally inexpensive and fun to make. This can suit any gender and is such a lovely stocking filler.

So here you have it, three DIY gift ideas suitable for all genders and are budget style. Let me know in the comments what you think.

Christmas Countdown // Stocking Fillers

Stockings are such a lovely gift to give each year where you can include so many personally gestures without it costing you a fortune. I’ve created a list of items you can get for both male and female stockings. I love my stocking and even at 20 I’ll open my stocking before any other gifts. It’s a tradition.

For a woman’s stocking there are so many things you can get for her, ranging from chocolates to beauty. It can be as big or small as you like, I’ve gone for a medium sized stocking this year.

My stocking is for my mum and I’ve decided to include a hand lotion and foot cream by Soap and Glory which will help with hard skin and creating softer and more hydrated hands. This was bought for £5 from Boots. I thing they’re such handy little products and mum can carry the hand cream around with her in her bag too.

I recommend Yankee Candles. The small Yankee Candles burn for 15 hours and are never for than £2. This year I put a set of 5 in my mums stocking, these are the Christmas collection from Clintons for £8.99. I bought my mum a candle holder for the Candles last year and she has been using it all the time.the selection of candles is so wide and they smell absolutely amazing, my mum likes to use lots of different ones instead of smelling the same all the time so these were perfect.

I struggle to buy for men and I think Matt is one of the most difficult people to buy for. This years stocking is full of little gestures that I know he’ll love and appreciate.
I come across this quiz game in B&M for £1.99. Totally inexpensive and so fun to play with the family over the Christmas period. I think these are such a fun little thing to put in the stocking and I know Matt will think it’s fun.

I made Matt a DIY jar of sweets, in my next Christmas post on Wednesday you’ll see a selection of DIY gifts. Matt loves sweets so I knew exactly what to include in his stocking. However I didn’t want to just add bags of sweets so I put them in a jar and added a pretty ribbon. A fairly straightforward gift and a lovely little gesture.

There you have it, a few little items to include in your loved ones stocking. Let me know what you guys like to put in stockings.

Book Review: Eleanor and Park.

Hey, little ones.

It’s that time of week again, are you excited? It’s book review day! Yippee. This week’s review is on Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. I turned 20 years old in April and I was given this book as a gift, however, you can purchase it on Amazon, check it out here. When I had received this book I had just completed Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and was so excited to read another by Rainbow Rowell. I will admit that I didn’t like this book as much as I hoped too but it does have good qualities.

Eleanor and Park were totally different people, they lived different lifestyles and their families were totally opposite. Park, a half-Korean boy who lives the perfect suburban life and Eleanor, a red head and slightly overweight girl with a highly dysfunctional family. They meet on the school bus and slowly begun to develop a relationship through their shared interest in music and comic books.

For me this book was difficult to read and actually took me longer than usual to read, I found bits of it a bit bland and as if it was missing a plot. However, by the end of the book, I felt real emotions for their situation, especially Eleanor. I do feel as if this book is just another teenage love story with very little plot but found the story of Eleanor’s dysfunctional family interesting and would have I think this story would have had more emotion and heartbreak if this story was emphasised more. I’m a sucker for a love story and if you’re interested in only a love story and no other story lines then this is for you. I personally preferred Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, you can purchase it here. However, we all have our own preferences.

These are my recommended books for this week if you liked Eleanor and Park, or even if you’re interested in other books to try:

  • Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher – Available here.
  • Looking for Alaska by John Green – Available here.
  • The Perks of Being a WallFlower by Stephen Chbosky – Available here.

If you fancy it, why not have a look at my other social media?

Back To University: Budget Stationery

Hey guys,

It’s that time again when I start preparing to go back to university. I attend Aberystwyth University a quiet seaside town far away from any large cities and shopping districts. I’m a childhood studies undergraduate and I spend an awful lot of time writing in notepads, highlighting and trying to find the many lost pens in my room. I know how expensive stationery is and how easy it is to run out. Today’s post is about the budget stationery I buy for the academic year and how I manage not to break the bank.

Over the years I’ve always spent a fortune on stationaery because they were cute and looked pretty. Since I started buying my own things I realised that money really doesn’t last forever and I would have to budget my way through university.  Instead of paying a fortune for stationery I now head to Wilkos and The Works for my stationery and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

To save paper I will almost always use my iPad in my lectures. I downloaded Microsoft PowerPoint on my iPad and it allows me to make fast notes. It’s such a convenient way of living for me as I’m usually always on the go. However, for those who don’t own an iPad there are other alternatives.

I find Wilkos notepads the most ideal for me as they are available in a variety of sizes and are so inexpensive. The functional A5 notepad lined paper is available for 50p, it holds 60 pages. You can purchase it here. I usually buy 2 of these per term to help make notes, to do lists or generally just doodle when I’m procrastinating. I also buy the functional A4 notepad, which is available for 75p. It has 80 pages and I find then to be super helpful for revision. However, the yellow covered books are only available in store, another A4 notepad available is the Wilko A4 refil Page with 80 pages. It is identical to the functional notepad and exactly same price, available here.

I find having a diary much more effective than using my calendar on my iPhone or iPad. I personally feel more comfortable having a hard copy of my weekly activities on me at all times than having something on my phone, just a personal preference really. I use the 16 – 17 diary, a Wilko A5 Academic Diary for only £2, you can get them here. It’s got everything I need, including a section for my timetable.

I use 2 A4 ringbinder’s each academic term to hold all my print outs, assignments, feedback etc. I find this the most useful way to store all my work and to keep me more organised. The more organised I am the more motivated I become to do work. The ones I use are only 50p and I think they’re fantastic, they’re sturdy and practical and keeps all my paperwork neat and tidy. You can purchase these online here.

Throughout the year I must buy countless amounts of pens because I use so many and as well because pens are so easily lost. I’ve started this year off by purchasing the Wilko gel pens for 75p. Buy them here. However, I’m always rushing off to Poundland to buy them too. Another alternative is to use the branded pens for your university, they’re often spread across displays and are available on open/visiting days. They’re free and can be found in numerous areas of your university.

I don’t often use pencils but they’re always useful to have in case of any spontaneous drawing or revision notes. These ones I bought were only 35p (10 pack) and can be purchased online here. They’re strong and are brilliant for everyday at an excellent value.

I use sticky note so often and I like to make sure i’ve got a large selection of them available at all times. They’re so useful to put in book to make sure you don’t miss the line you were reading as well as to make to do lists and reminders. Unfortunately mine are no longer sold in The Works, so i’ve attached alternatives here. They’re brilliant and such good value for money.

I purchased my stapler and hole punch for £4 in The Works. However, I’ve been unable to find them on the website so i’ve attached alternatives for you to purchase here. They can also be purchased individually. For a set however, you can’t go wrong. If find having a stapler and hole punch so useful to have especially for large articles that i’ve got to read. Another alternative would be to use paperclips which are also reusable.

I hope you’ve found this useful! There isn’t any need to splash out a fortune on things that seem pretty, as long as they’re good value and practical for everyday use these items above are affordable and exactly what you need.

August Favourites

Over my many years of being on the internet I have come across so many people discussing their monthly favourites and I find them so informative and they help me when choosing new products, books, films etc. While i discuss my monthly favourites you’ll get to know me just that little bit more and you’ll understand why the small things in my life make me who I am. So, lets get straight into it!

Face Masks have been non-existent throughout my life up until recently. In my recent post I reviewed two of the Avon deep treatment masks and discussed how much I enjoyed them. So i’ve obviously bought more… oops. They make my face feel so clean and soft, they’re so gentle on my skin and they definitely help my make up to sit better on my face. I have struggles with blackheads and pores around my nose and for so long i’ve been so bothered by them, these face masks improve the condition of my skin and have minimised the pores and blackheads surrounding my nose. They’re a definite must throughout my skin care routine now.

During the month of August my old Nokia was due an upgrade so i switched to an iPhone SE and i’m so thankful that I did. I’ve always been a fan of apple products and I swear by my iPad making my life a whole lot easier. I loved my Nokia because i never really needed it for anything other than texting and calling. I had used iPhone’s before and I never thought I would miss having it but I did. It’s totally convenient  to everything I use it for, I’m able to do uni work on it and I love to Facetime my family when i’m away. It’s made being away from home a lot easier.

I discussed the NYX HD Powder over on my previous post so I wont go into it to much. However, it’s a fantastic product. It helps my make up sit wonderfully and last all day long, it looks flawless. It’s a great product to use to bake under the eyes and for the price of it you cant go wrong. It’ll be in my make up bag for a long time.

My final favourite is my home with my family, for so long I waited to be able to move out and go to university away from home so I would be able to look at the world from a different perspective and see who I am without having my family determined it for me. I’m now going into my third year at Aberystwyth University and i’ve spent the summer at home in the house I grew up in with the people who motive me and shape me into the individual that I am today. I may bicker with my family and they may annoy me but at the end of the day, they’re the only family I’m ever going to have and im so grateful for the all things they do and I love each of them so much. Going back to university in 2 weeks will be hard but i’m looking forward to having my own space again but I don’t think i’ll ever take for granted having family around again.

So there you have it, my 4 favourites of August and I still cannot believe it’s September already. Time really does fly. I hope you’ve enjoyed my monthly favourites, look back at the end of September for my new favourites!
