Welcome 2017

It’s 2017! Happy New Year everybody!

2016 literally flew by and it only feels like yesterday since I woke up on January 1st 2016 with the biggest hangover of my life. Entering 2017 was no different either, I spent the night with Matt, Mac, Callum, Jack, Foz, Arron, James and Lewis getting very drunk and thoroughly enjoying the last night of 2016. We spent the evening in Aberystwyth town with many others and had a excellent night full of dancing, singing and drinking. I’m not one for nights out but I really enjoyed spending quality time with some of my best friends and specially entering another new year with Matthew by my side.

During the month of December I’ve been thinking about what I want to do to make 2017 a better year. So, for the first time ever I’ve made a few new year’s resolutions, let’s just hope I stick to them. I’ve decided to share them with you guys and throughout the year update you on how I’m getting on with them. It’ll be a total failure if I end up messing them up. I haven’t made too many as I don’t want to be too overwhelmed with trying to maintain them and I’ve made them quite realistic too so that I’ll be able to actually achieve them. So, here is a list of my new years resolutions for 2017, let me know what yours are in the comments.

1-  I’d like to have a more positive outlook on life.

Like most I have a habit of expressing my negativity when I find something or someone has annoyed me. I’d like to be a bit  more positive when it come to things that annoy me. Rather than seeing it as irritating I’d like to have a different outlook on it and think of how things could be worse therefore it’s not as annoying as I would have found it.

2 – Exercise more.

Since being a third year student I find that I’m so busy and I become so stressed very easily. It’s a known fact that exercise can help to reduce stress and help you to become happier and relaxed. Whether it be going to the gym or playing a sport, I would like to spend a few hours a week exercising. This will probably contribute towards my next resolution.

3- Lose a small amount of weight.

As happy as I am with my body, I’d like to lose around a stone in weight for my health. I personally don’t mind being curvy and embrace what I have. I was definitely more confident with my body when I was stone lighter and I’d like to get back to that place before the summer comes around.

4- Be more sociable.

So many people believe that I’m an extrovert but in reality, I’m actually an introvert. I spend a lot of my time alone as I like my own company and I often find being around people for too long quite suffocating. However, I’ve realised that I should make more of an effort to spend time with my friends and go out more (I rarely drink and go on nights out, it’s just not my thing).

Remember to let me know what your new years resolutions are and follow me on social media:

Book Review: Bridget Jones’s Baby The Diaries

Book review day, wahoo! Bloody love Fridays on my blog. This weeks book review is dedicate to the lady herself, Miss Bridget Jones. In September I posted my review on the newly released film Bridget Jones’s Baby and then several weeks later the book was finally released. I’ve loved Bridget Jones since I was a teenager, in fact she reminds me of myself. She’s utterly fantastic, humorous, real and just generally a brilliant lady. The previous books and films have portrayed Bridget as none other than a common English woman with bad habits and awful language. The book was as brilliant as I thought it would be.

Bridget Jones, 43, single, mother-to-be. Still living in her tiny flat, Bridget had to plan a whole life around a tiny baby with no idea who the father was. It could be either of the two loves of her life, Mark Darcy or Daniel Cleaver. After two spontaneous nights of thrilling sex with both of her previous lovers Bridget finds herself in a pickle when she discovers she is pregnant with no idea who the father is. Along the way she finds herself discovering who her heart truly lies with.

Now, if you’ve seen the film already you’ll be aware of the ending. The book and the film are definitely different, which was predictable as the film isn’t based off the book. I personally loved both the book and film. However, the book was such a good part of the collection by Helen Fielding that I couldn’t help but become totally captivated with the love triangle between Bridget, Mark and Daniel all over again. It was so funny, I laughed and cried and remembered all over why I loved Bridget in the first place. Blood fantastic.

Don’t Apologise For Being Human

The society we live in makes so many woman and men feel guilty for looking a specific way, for their sexual orientation, for having an illness. It’s ridiculous how much we have to keep hidden in case our way of living offends someone. It’s 2016, so what if two men love each other? That’s their choice, loving someone is natural. There are thousands of people that struggle with mental illnesses and still in 2016 they’re afraid to announce that they have anxiety, depression or bipolar in case someone says they’re attention seeking and making things up. A recent news article showed a 19 year old man saying that women should learn to control their menstral cycle when having a period. What bullshit that is. How have people become so ignorant? These are a list of things you should never, ever apologise for.

#1: Mental Illness. As someone who struggles with anxiety I know how it feels to have a panic attack and instantly apologise when I’ve recovered. I know I don’t have too but I feel like such an inconvenience to the people around me or that it’s a sign of weakness. You shouldn’t be ashamed of who you are, having panic attacks or anxiety or any type of mental illness isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s strength. Having the strength to get out of bed and face the world when you’re at your lowest is the hardest thing in the world. You’re so strong. Don’t apologise for having emotions and needing to let them out. Don’t ever apologise for needing to rant to someone about something that’s bothered you. Those people that shame mental illness, they’re the ones who need to apologise.

#2: Sexual Orientation. If you love a man or woman it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t effect anybody. If that man at the bus stop doesn’t like to watch two men hold hands and show each other love and affection, don’t stop to cater to his feelings. You continue to show love to your significant other and say a big fuck you to those people who can’t accept the different sexual orientation. Love is natural and is a normal aspect of human nature. Don’t ever apologise for the need to be loved and wanted.

#3: Periods. As a female who bleeds for 1 week out of the month I will not apologise for having a function that comes with being human. I was given this body and a period in order to survive. One day I wish to carry a child, without the ability to bleed once a month I’m unlikely If at all able to be a mother. My boyfriend, Matt, is 100% the most supportive person to have when I’m bleeding. He has stuck by my side even when I’ve been bleeding for over a month. That’s what you need in your life. If you have someone telling you that they don’t like you or want you because you have a period, or that you smell or are dirty. You need new people in your life.

#4: Weight. I’m not the smallest of girls and at 5ft 2 I’m definitely  slightly overweight. So what? That’s my choice. I love my curves. Matt loves my curves. I am who I am and I will never apologise for not being a size 8, 6ft model.  I am 5ft 2 as is my mother. Genetics is a part that determines your general weight and height and I’m okay with that because that’s not something I control. What I do control is having people in my life who can’t love and accept me for who I am and how I look. I love my curves. Every single one. My fat ass don’t care what you’ve got to say, keep your negative and judgemental  opinions to yourself.

#5: Height. I can’t comprehend why girls think that they can’t be with a boy below 6ft. Apparently they’re ‘too short’. This is bullshit! Is society now telling men that it’s unacceptable to be any height below 6ft because they’re unlovable? There isn’t a rule book that says they aren’t worthy of love because they don’t fit the criteria. I’m 5ft 2, am not sexy enough? Am I too small to be appreciated? No. Absolutely not, it’s ridiculous. Me and my little legs won’t stand for it anymore and neither should you.

#6: AcneThis one really grinds my bones, ugh. Acne is not something that people ask for. Acne can be caused due to so many things and it’s commonly linked with homrmores for both males and females and it can start at ANY age. In fact, 80% of people between 11 to 30 have been affected by acne. No matter how many face scrubs and acne treatment’s people buy, there a slim chance of them removing acne forever. It will come back. I have stress spots that appear quite frequently, just because life is  a pain in the ass. It doesn’t mean that a person is dirty because they have acne and it’s actually a really personal and embarrassing subject for most people. It really upsets me that people think it’s acceptable to point out people’s insecurities and slate them for it, you have no idea of the lasting effects your nasty, vile words do to others.

        Don’t apologise for being human.

The Crown // Is It Worth Watching?

The Crown was released as a Netflix original in November and I’ve finally caught up on the hype to see whether it’s worth watching.

I love history and I find the history of the royal family really interesting. The Crown follows Queen Elizabeth II from her wedding day to her coronation to become Queen and all the way to the present day. It looks at the family background, the responsibilities as a member of the royal family and the issues that Elizabeth II faces as Queen. The first season is based between 1947-1955 and will follow through six seasons and ending the series with viewing the Queen’s life in the present day.

From the first episodes I was sucked in. I binge watched it and couldn’t help but be so interested in the background, history and lifestyle of the royal family. It made me admire the Queen more than I ever did before simply because the demands of being Queen are more extreme than what I ever could have imagined. I never really knew much about the royal family before watching this and it’s definitely encouraged me to learn more about them. I especially enjoyed the affair between Margret and Peter Townsend, it made me realise that they aren’t perfect at all. In fact they are most definitely as human as the rest of us.

It’s a show that you have to carefully watch and concentrate on. It won’t be something that you can have on in the background whilst you do something else. It’s full of little details and a broad story. I can’t wait for the next season. I 100% think it’s worth watching if you have an interest in history and the lives of the royals.

Book Review: Behind Closed Doors

This weeks book review is so exciting, this book was absolutely brilliant. It’s the novel Behind Closed Doors by B.A Paris. For more book reviews look back at my previous ones or check them out every Friday at 1pm.

Jack and Grace seemed to live the perfect happy wife. Jack, the ideal husband with the most loving and kind heart and perfect Grace, the devoted Wife. On the outside they look like they live the most normal and happy life but behind closed doors, their lives are far from normal and happy. Jack has hidden his urges for so long and once he met Grace he knew she was the one to make his dreams come true. If someone doesn’t stop him, who knows how far he’ll go to get what he wants.

Its utterly fantastic and brilliantly written. This thriller kept me wanting more and more, it was almost impossible for me to put it down. Parts of it was heartbreaking but it was totally captivating. The best thriller I’ve read this year, in fact for a long time. I recommend it if you enjoy a mystery, thriller that will be make you want more. Grace’s Sister was truly delightful and her part in the book was devastating and really broke my heart. By the end of the book you’ll become more aware and saddened by those who have to deal with abuse in real life. It’s excellent, truly fantastic and by far one of the best books I have read this year, and I’ve read a lot.

If you liked this one, I recommend:

Gone Girl- Gillian Flynn

Girl on the Train- Paula Hawkins

October Favourites

The month of October is ending and now I can share with you all what i’ve been loving this month. Just a little warning now but this months favourites is kinda boring. Having broken my dominant hand i’ve not been wearing much make up or styling my own hair (Thank you Tasha, Meg and Nimbob for being my very own stylists). However, there are a few little bits that i’ve grown to love a whole lot.

I received my first Birch Box, the September edition during the first few days of October. Later that week followed by my October edition. I love these boxes, I pay £12.95 (inc p+p) a month and I received 5 new products to try and test out. I think the beauty subscription boxes are fantastic, I always love trialling new products but I never know what I want because the selection is so wide. Each month i’ll be posting about what I received in the box, be sure to check them out. Go back and look at my September, here & October unboxing here.

On the same path of my Birch Boxes, I recently received the Rituals Magic Touch Body Cream. I hadn’t ever tried anything from Rituals and I am definitely not going back now. It’s so, so, so super moisturising and hydrating on my skin. Currently my right arm is out of use because of my broken wrist and because I’m trying not to get it as wet as I can in case I ruin the cast. I’ve been using this moisturiser on my arms in the morning and night. It’s been a life saver, especially because my arms are so dry at the moment. It’s fantastic and I definitely think I’ll be repurchasing.

Behind Closed Doors by B.A Paris is a book I’ve been meaning to get around to reading but never having the time. I recently read this and I now see why so many people raved about it. It’s brilliant, written so well and keeps you wanting more and more after every chapter. It was one of those books that doesn’t give away any clues. Utterly fantastic. My review will be up within the next few weeks, be sure to look out for it.

Little Mix have released a song from their new and fourth album called Shout Out to My Ex. It’s bloomin’ great and so catchy. 100% was written with a person in mind for each of the girls. Especially for me, whenever I listen to it I know exactly which of my ex boyfriends I relate it too. It was sang on X-Factor and they sang it so well. They’ve come along way since winning the X-Factor in 2011. However, their outfit choices for their performance on x-factor were slightly revealing but regardless the song is fantastic.

I bought the Bourjois Radiance Concealer in Superdrug for £8 check here. I love it, for a drugstore concealer it’s so full coverage and light below the eyes. I got mine in shade 1 to highlight my undereyes and hide my dark circles. I love it so much, will definitely be repurchasing.

These few little things are what I’ve been enjoying throughout the month of October. Since I’ve still only got one working arm I’ve not been trying many new products so I’m really looking forward to having the cast removed.
