Eating Clean At Christmas

With Christmas being such a festive time of year we all know that we eat and drink far too much. Then January comes around and instantly we’re all on a total health kick trying to lose the weight we gained by eating boxes of celebrations and pigs in blankets.

Can we really blame ourselves? Christmas is once a year and the holiday season is full of parties, events and special times that we can’t help ourselves but indulge on our favourite foods. It’s hard to eat healthy during the year let alone at Christmas!

I do have a few tips for making sure we keep to our diets and not gain an extra stone in weight to add more pressure to overselves in January. I’m by no means an angel at this, I can’t help but open the chocolates and treats when everybody else does but this year I’ve promised myself that I’ll be making better choices but still be happy and comfortable when making those bad ones.

I’ve said it before but it’s natural that we all need our treats but in limits. So, if you know you have an event or party to go to where you’ll be drinking and eating foods you normally wouldn’t. Prepare yourself throughout the day, eat healthier and lighter and work out harder. After you’ve treated yourself, instead of falling back into bad habits the next morning, make good ones. Whether you like it or not, eat the fruit, work out and be excited for your next treat. One meal does not ruin a whole diet and you won’t gain 7lb from eating a few chocolates or some greasy food.

When I’m at home in the evenings and the treats are out, staring at me from across the room, I always resist temptation and grab the tin. However, this year, instead of grabbing the tin I’ve portioned up the chocolates into packets to limit myself to how many I can have. In each packet I’ve put 4 chocolates, which I think is actually quite generous. There’s no harm in 4 sma chocolates whilst watching the TV. Again though, resist temptation throughout the day and drink plenty of water.

On that note, drink lots of water and distract yourself. Half the time you aren’t even hungry but the thought of having a chocolate is just mouth watering. Drinking water will keep you hydrated and fill that need for food.

A final note, don’t feel guilty. It’s Christmas and we all deserve to treat ourselves. You get one month out of the year to really celebrate and embrace your achievements and life and the gift of family, friends and loving. So enjoy it!

5 Secret Santa Gifts For Girls

                                                                    Happy blogmas day 4!

Whether you’re doing secret santa with your friends, in work or for any occasion, it’s often quite difficult to decide what to get for the individual. What if you don’t know them that well? What if you don’t know what they already have? It’s hard! It’s the most difficult part of buying gifts. However, there are ways to go around it.

A lot of the time there are budgets for secret Santa, so all of these possible gifts will be under a £15 limit but definitely decent gifts for a secret Santa.

1. Lush bath bombs. Can’t go a miss really can you? They’re gorgeous and are so fun. Who doesn’t love a bath bomb?

2. A DVD/book and a bottle of wine or box of chocolates. This one is definitely something you could use but remember to get the DVD/book in a genre they’ll like and the wine or chocolates that you know they’ll drink or eat.

3. Socks and pyjamas. Primark do some fantastic Christmas pjs and socks. The only problem with this is one is that you might have guess the clothing size but they’re pyjamas, who cares if they’re a little baggy?

4. Cute stationary. Again, Primark have some beautiful stationary sets. If you’re looking to splash out a bit you could head to paperchase and see what they have.

5. Nobody wants to be that person who gives a gift card but if you know that the person likes a specific shop, you could give them a £15 gift card. For me, I’d be so grateful for a £15 to Debenhams, Boots or Waterstones.

How I keep Organised During December

HAPPY BLOGMAS DAY 2!

I upload a new post every day (6pm) of December as a countdown to Christmas!

December is a difficult month. With all the shopping, parties and events happening how do we have time to keep up? I’ve got a few tips and tricks to ensure your sanity is maintained throughout the month of December. I’m a fairly organised person anyway and I hate not being prepared for such a busy time of year. Yes, I’m probably a little too organised but is that such a bad thing?

Step 1: Write to-do lists. A daily log of your activities to remind you of what you should be doing and when you need them done by. It’s as simple as that. Bullet journaling has become a hobby of mine and it really does help to remind you what you need to do and it’s also so fun to colour and be creative! This is especially important for those who work, have children, have university and other hobbies. It’s hard to maintain a balanced life let alone during December.

Step 2: Give yourself a day of rest. With the month being such a busy time of year, remind yourself that you do need a break between work, home life, university, Christmas planning and just generally living. It can be so hard! Have a bath, glass of wine and read a book. It’ll refresh you for those extra busy days.

Step 3: Write a list of all the people you need to buy for and ideas. I recommend personalised things from notonthehighstreet.com  you can never go wrong with a personalised gift.

Step 4: Do your shopping online. Plan your food shopping online, choose a delivery date that is convenient for you. Sit back, relax and ignore all those busy crowds of people. Forgot to get your neighbour a Christmas present? Amazon Prime that shit. So stress-free, relaxing and you can do it from your work desk or the comfort of your own home.

I also recommend starting your shopping early, save your money early (don’t wait until Christmas Eve to buy all your families presents, you’re asking for trouble). I normally start mine in October after payday, the more you get done earlier the better. You won’t go completely bankrupt in November and December then!

December Goals

HAPPY BLOGMAS!

Every day as a countdown until Christmas I’ll be uploading a new post at 6pm.

The final month of 2017 is here, so it’s obviously time to try and achieve my new year’s resolutions in one month (Just kidding, I forgot them). Let’s be honest that isn’t going to happen. I’ve been enjoying giving myself monthly goals and I think I’d like to try this throughout the next year. I think it’s such a fun way to keep track of your life and as a challenge to yourself each month.

This month’s goals:

  • Maintain a healthy-ish diet throughout the holiday season (why would I do this to myself?)
  • Maintain my weight! (Wishful thinking, right?)
  • Watch at least 1 Christmas movie a week.
  • Have my Christmas shopping finished a week before Christmas.
  • Visit a Christmas market and Winter Wonderland.
  • Enjoy the let month of 2017 and prepare for an amazing new year.

What are yours? Let me know!

Bio Oil Is A Life Changer

Over the past few months I’ve been using Bio Oil for the first time. I’ve heard about this product and so many of my friends swore by it but I always thought it was pricey but I had severe 2nd (maybe 3rd degree burns) on my arm during august and once the sting had gone and it had started to heal I was using Bio Oil – as I was recommended it, to minimise scaring.

Originally, when I had first burned my arm it was looking like the images below.

It was incredibly painful, it blistered and was severally swollen causing the lack of movement in 2 fingers. It was by far the worst pain I’ve ever experience in my life. After a few times of using this my skin begun to peel quite badly but it was just the Oil removing any dry and dead skin from my affected areas. Honestly, Bio Oil has changed my life and I can imagine I’ll be purchasing so many bottles of this wonderful invention.

My arm now looks like this.

After a few days of using Bio Oil and seeing the change it made to my arm I thought I’d give it a go in other ways. It says that the product can be used for scaring, stretch marks, uneven skin tones and more. I do struggle with stretch marks and I always have done. Since I’ve gained and lost weight recently I thought I’d see if it helped, I apply the Bio Oil twice daily to my stretch marks and a small amount to my skin to help reduce acne scaring and produce a more even type of skin tone.

It’s blown me away. My skin feels softer, the stretch marks are slowly going, my skin tone is evening out. It’s become a normal part of my day to apply this product and I can’t imagine ever imagine not having this in my life now.

Admittedly, this product isn’t a quick solution for your issues. I’ve been using Bio Oil for several months now and didn’t see change in my stretch marks for several weeks. Although I did see change within my burn very quickly but mostly because it was helping my skin to shred itself.

My Experience of Being a Young Auntie

I was 14 when my niece, Gracie was born. That was 6 years ago (7 in December) and in the past 6 years I have become best friends with the brightest, most clever and beautiful little girl.

When I thought being an auntie couldn’t get any better we welcomed my nephew Ethan, who is due to turn 2 in January. I was 19 when Ethan was born. The love I have for this handsome little boy is so overwhelming.

However, I did notice a totally different perspective when Ethan was born in comparison to Gracie. At 14 I was young, naive and I didn’t have much care. It took me a little while to adjust to being an auntie and because I was so young as Gracie got older we bickered like sisters (imagine having a screaming match with a 2 year old.. that was us). Eventually we adjusted and we are so incredibly close now.

I had 4 years with Gracie before I headed off to uni which meant I had 4 years to form the most wonderful relationship. Whereas, Ethan was born in my 2nd year of uni and don’t get me wrong, we’re close but I’m definitely missing out on the milestones he’s having. I missed his first word, his first step and the worst bit, I missed his birth.

At 14 I wouldn’t have cared about these things but now I’m older, I’ve realised that I appreciate these things more than anything and having missed them has broken my auntie heart.

At this point I would have though I wouldn’t have much of a bond with Baby Ethan but that isn’t what’s happened. When Ethan see’s me he runs at me to kiss me, when I’m on FaceTime he gives the biggest smiles. He acknowledges me and knows me which is something I didn’t think would happen.

These two children are my best friends, without them our family really wouldn’t be complete. I wouldn’t say it wasn’t challenging at first. With me being so young when Gracie arrived I still wanted attention, in fact I craved it more than ever. She was this perfect little doll-like baby and she was taking my thunder (I was the baby in the family). My parents became grandparents and they were having a totally different experience as well. My brother became an uncle (didn’t really bother him as he was older).

Admittedly, I didn’t grow out of these feelings as fast as I should have. However, now I have I realised how much I appreciate and love having these little ones in my life.

Being an auntie means so much more than I could have ever thought. When I’ve picked Gracie up from school and I hear that she has spent the whole day talking about Auntie Beth picking her up, it gives me so much happiness.

Seeing Ethan smile, develop and grow into such a clever boy really is amazing. I have spent the last 3 years studying childhood studies but nothing prepares you to actually watch a child grow.

Being an auntie is so much more to me than I ever could have imagined. I can’t wait to see these children grow and do amazing things with all the potentional they have.
