Review: Riverdale

Riverdale has been the hype recently and along with so many other’s, I watched it. I found out that it was going to be a newly released show last November and without a doubt, I knew I would watch it. I crave cheesy, drama filled, romantic TV shows, I cant help myself. So, I watched the trailer, forgot about it and then it began in January. So, season 1 came and passed and after spending 13 episodes watching it, I can finally give you my full review on this show.

Is it worth the watch? I think so. If I’m totally honest, I was more interested in the story line of Jughead, Archie, Veronica and Betty than the murder of Jason Blossom, although I understood the point of Jason’s story line. However, as a show I think it’s brilliant and definitely could replace my love for The Vampire Diaries and Teen Wolf (there isn’t any supernatural behaviour in Riverdale though).

It took me 4 episodes to actually enjoy the show. That’s mainly because it was only introducing the character’s and setting the plot though. So nothing to do with the show exactly as the introduction is totally necessary. I do have favourites in Riverdale and my goodness, I really do look forward to seeing Cole Sprouse every single week. He play’s Jughead so well and has definitely drifted from his earlier work on Disney Channel. He’s fantastic as an actor and absolutely gorgeous. Where can I get one? Or two?

I’m also incredibly interested in the Cooper family, they just seem to have so many secrets and I want to know them all. However, Betty definitely seems like a totally different person in comparison to her parents.

I particularly love this 50s vibe that is has. I didn’t quite understand it at first, then found out that it’s because the comics were set in this time and just love that the show has stuck to this. The vibe is fantastic, the scenes are excellent and the cast couldn’t be any better.

I can see the next season being even better than the first and it’s been said that season 2 will have 22 episodes rather than 13! Wahoo. I thoroughly enjoyed this show and I can’t wait to see what hold’s for Jughead and Betty and to also finally see what drama Veronica’s dad brings to the town.

My Flatmates Are Cool

In September 2016 I moved into a new flat with some of my very best friends, Macaulay, Naomi and James and now it is coming to an end, I’ve realised how fantastic my flatmates really are. So, I thought I would share exactly why they’re so brilliant.

A little insight into my friends and how we met.. Macaulay and I met almost 4 years ago during a 6 week summer university taster in Aberystwyth (where we now live) and we’ve been best friends ever since. When Macaulay moved to Aberystwyth in 2015 he moved into a flat with James and Naomi, as well as Matthew my boyfriend. Across the year I became really good friends with all of Macaulay’s flatmates and when the time came we decided that we would live together and I’m super happy we made the decision too. I really appreciate having flatmates who are my friends and who make me feel so comfortable in the place that I live. They’ve made this year so much easier and have helped to make my final year of university the best I have ever had. So, I thought I would share with you guys a few little reasons to why they are the coolest and some of my most favourite people.

1- They are always there for me when I have been stressed, overwhelmed with university and on the verge of having a nervous breakdown. My anxiety can sometimes get the best of me and panic attacks occur, this is when these guys are running into my room to cuddle me and make me feel so much better. This is the reason I love them, because of their constant support.

2- They love my boyfriend just as much as I do.. sometimes I wondering if they love him more than me though.

3- They super chill. Literally all the time, sometimes after a few hours of not hearing any of them I start to wonder whether they’re still alive. They are forever so calm and understanding of everything and they don’t kick up a fuss over a bit of mess. It’s the best.

4- They’re always ready for a takeaway. Our most asked question in the group chat is ‘fancy a takeaway?’ and we always say yes. That way when I fancy a takeaway but don’t want to feel guilty, they do it too and I feel better. They take one for the team.

5- James and I have this odd banter when we shout and swear at each other just because… But it doesn’t change the fact that he’s one of my very best friends and I love him a lot. However, I really do like walking into a room and shouting at him for fun. It’s amusing.

Update // New Years Resolutions

The new year is well under way and I’ve been trying to stick to my New Years resolutions. At the beginning of the year I posted about my resolutions for 2017 and how I want to do things that will influence my life. So, I thought it was time to update you guys on how I’ve been doing or how badly.

Firstly, I wanted to bake more. Nope, not my under eyes but actual cakes. I attempted this by baking packet Tom and Jerry cupcakes. Baking is time consuming and expensive. I haven’t got time to do this all the time but I do think that I’ll continue to try a few more times within the next few months. Bub no means do I want to be the next British Bake Off winner but it’s more of a stress reliever.

Next, I wanted to exercise more. For the first few weeks I definitely made a good amount of effort towards this by regularly walking and participating in short runs. I’m not a runner and I throughly disliked every moment of it. However, I’m definitely more likely to participate in exercise now than ever before. I’m happy to walk places regardless of the distance and I’m keen to do some form of exercise but running. It is not for me at all.

I also wanted to lose some weight. So I started dieting and really struggled to keep a balance because of how restricting it is. In hopes to help my situation I weighed myself and instantly knocked me down, I gained more weight than I had realised and I was unhappy. I started Slimfast after hearing so many positive reviews and in total I have lost over half a stone! Very pleased with my first few weeks and now the weight loss has started to slow down I know I can have days off and still continue to lose the weight in my own time. I totally recommend Slimfast!

I also wanted to become more sociable and this is one of the resolutions that I can say  have stuck to. I’ve been going out more and become happier to meet new people and socialise more. I do think it’s benefiting my lifestyle and making me happier too. Win, win! The main reason for my nights out is due to the weekly socials my society host every Tuesday night. As the president of the society I am able to socialise and meet more like-minded people which is exactly what I wanted from being president. I get to help people along the way too and meet people who are just as anxious about university life and the stresses of assignments.

Let me know about your resolutions, are you sticking to them? It’s harder than I thought!

Book Review: Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

My newest book review is here and it’s a good one! This week it is on Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I bloody love this book, it’s so creative and imaginative and ideal for children. It’s incredibly written and so fun! I totally recommend to everybody. Literally anybody, regardless of what genre you usually go for this is so suitable for everybody as it has a little bit of different genres from romance to thriller and mystery.

Jacob Portman had been listening to his grandfather’s stories his whole life, stories about a group of peculiar children whom he lives within a children’s home in Wales. As he grew older he realised that these were in fact just stories and those of which he doubts until he visits his dying grandfather and witnesses a creature that only he could see. Grandfather Abraham would describe simply as a monster. He and his father spend 3 weeks in Wales in hopes to learn more about his beloved grandfather and instead learn more than he could ever have imagined.

I think this book is incredible. I’ve not come across a review that says otherwise yet. It’s so fun to read and it makes you remember all those imaginative stories you come across as a kid. The book has old pictures of these peculiar children and I love that you get to see what these children would have actually looked like. However, it’s so frustrating that they’re in the middle of chapters throughout the book. Don’t get me wrong I love the images I just wish there was more of a structure to it as I found that I would get distracted by the images when reading a chapter.

This book is fantastic and has made me so excited to read the second and third instalments! Let me know if you liked or disliked it and check out my social media.

10 Thing I’ve Learned From Amy Schumer

Amy Schumer has become a worldwide success and one of the most influential women in the entertainment industry. She is known for her work as a stand-up comedian, actress, producer, director and writer and the woman  with the lower back tattoo. She’s utterly fantastic, her experiences throughout her life have been shown in her book and after reading it I couldn’t help but share some of my favourite quotes from it. She’s brilliant and having been a fan of her work for sometime now I’ve learned a few things from her. So here we have it, 10 things I’ve learned fr Amy Schumer. Enjoy!

“I’m a flawed fuckup and I haven’t figured anything out, so I have no words of wisdom to offer you.”

We’re human. It’s totally acceptable to be a fuckup on occasions and make mistakes but that’s okay because there are 7 billion people in the world who do the exact same thing.

“Never let a magazine or dating site or matchmaker monster tell them they’re in a lower bracket of desirability because of their age, weight, face or sense of humour”

Regardless of your appearance you deserve to be treated with the same respect as everybody else. Nobody was born looking the same (except identical twins) and if I’m totally honest, I don’t want to be a size 4 model. Be happy with who you have, love yourself.

“You don’t need a man, boy or self-proclaimed love expert to tell you your worth”

We are all worthy of kindness, love and respect. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice for people to acknowledge my worth but I don’t need it. I know I’m valued and I deserve to be just like everybody else.
“You are hot and the person who loves you won’t notice 10 extra pounds. I promise”

Weight doesn’t determine love or worth. You can lose or gain pounds and still be an asshole, it’s who you are that counts.

“He was the most beautiful man I had ever seen, and I was immediately turned on just looking at him. Quick side note: THAT NEVER FUCKING HAPPENS. Every day, men look at women walk by in skirts and tight jeans and get tiny erections, or at the very least some sort of arousal. But for women it’s a rare occurrence to see a dude and think, dayummmmm!”

For all those men who think that all woman walk around admiring every man they see. You’re wrong. Not once have I walked down the street and thought about how much I wanted to rip his clothes off. It doesn’t happen, it’s not a lynks deodorant advert.

“When you get older and wiser, you get your confidence from within, not from the person you are having sex with”

Do I have to explain anymore from this quote? She nailed it on the head. You’re the only person who can change your confidence.

“You become a woman the first time you get fitted for a bra and realise you’ve been wearing the wrong size your whole fucking life”

I was 20 years old. 20! Once I had been measured I realised I was wearing the wrong size for so long. No wonder I hated bras so much.

“We girls are conditioned to the no we should hold out or we’d be a labelled a slut”

Girls can have sex as much as guys can. What differences does it make? The number of people that women or men have slept with does not determine how valued they are by others.

“Isn’t it sad that when a girl says she was sexually assaulted, our first instinct is to think she’s probably lying”

Sexual assault is not something to be joked about or used as a lie. So many women and men experience sexual assault and it’s pushed aside because of other people’s ignorance.

“There is nothing better than being your own boss. Well, there is, actually: not having to work at all”

I couldn’t think of anything better than being my own boss and eventually this is something I’ll achieve. How could you not want to be in control of your working hours and how your work load can influence others around you.

I personally think Amy Schumer is more real than most understand. I’m all of these quotes she points out obvious statements but not that obvious to most of society.

The OA // Worth Watching?

I tend to mix between books and TV series quite often and after reading several books I decided it was time to start watching something new. So as I do, I headed to Netflix and seen that they had added some new shows and movies and among all the options I came across The OA remembering that so many people had been talking about it on Twitter I made the choice to give it a go. It’s newly released with only 1 series and 8 1 hour episodes.

Prairie Johnson had been missing for 7 years until she was spotted jumping off a bridge. Despite having been blind due to an accident as a child she could see. Prairie now goes by ‘The OA’ instead of her adoptive name and refuses to share any information from her disappearance. In hopes to save others like her she assembles a team of 5 to help her find others who have been experiencing the same situation as her.

So is it worth watching? definitely! I was 12 minutes into the first episode and totally hooked. You think, how is it possible to be to into a show only 12 minutes in? Well, it’s different. Totally different to any other show I’ve ever seen. The OA’s story is like no other and is totally unique which made me even more interested in the rest of her story. Throughout series one you met new characters who bring the story to life and allow you to understand more about the situation. One specific character (a scientist, I won’t spoil it!) really interested me the most as he was someone who could definitely exist in this world. An utter nut job, crazy weird guy.

I think this show is brilliant and I can’t wait for season 2! You guys should definitely watch it and let me know what you think. You’ll definitely like this show if you’ve watched Stranger Things.
