Jingle and Mingle

Tanya Burr is a makeup artist, YouTuber, author, now actor and owner and creater of Tanya Burr Cosmetics. I’ve been a fan of Tanya’s eyeshadows and lip products so each year, if I like a product I like to try and pick something up in her Christmas releases.

I’m not one of those people that has to get everything because to be honest, I won’t wear everything. There were some new matte lipsticks that I just didn’t really think I needed since I already have lip colours similar. I also didn’t think I needed a new bunch of her eyeshadows since I know they’re already incredible.

However, I just couldn’t leave this palette t sit on the self. For the price of £18 the Jingle and Mingle palette gives you 3 eyeshadows, a bronzer, a lip gloss, a silver glitter pot and a black eyeliner!

The reason I choose this particular palette is mostly because of the bronzer but I also felt like out of the releases, this is the palette that I’ll get a use out off and I particularly liked the tones of this palette. The Jingle and Mingle palette is labelled the night palette and there is another palette that is the day palette. However the other palette had shades that are similar to some I already own and I thought I wouldn’t get the use out of it.

I think for the price of the palette, you do get your money’s worth. Especially because glitter isn’t cheap at all and other than a mascara, you’re able to create a full eye look with this palette alone. So if you’re travelling over the holidays you can take this palette and a few other makeup items to create the perfect look.

I got mine from Superdrug and it’s also available online and at feelunique.com.

5 Secret Santa Gifts For Guys

I recently shared 5 secret Santa ideas for girls so I thought, it was only right to do it for guys as well. I find buying gifts for guys so hard and if I don’t know them all that well, it’s even harder. Secret Santa is hard enough as it is without the added pressure of buying for someone who you don’t know well.

Honestly, I struggled with this one but I figured that these 5 gifts wouldn’t really go a miss.

1. Alcohol. Find out what their favourite alcoholic beverage is and buy them a bottle. Some say this is cheating, I personally think this is a fantastic idea.

2. A gift card isn’t a bad idea at all. I said in my last secret Santa post that a gift card really is an easy buy without the added pressure. Amazon, Game or even a clothing store would be fantastic options.

3. What sports do they like? A tv show maybe? You can get so many t-shirts from Amazon now that cater for so many things. This specific t-shirt from Amazon is for those rugby players out there, it’s such a good idea and creative.

4. If the guy is creative and enjoys these types of things, I totally recommend lego. It’s so fun for any age and you can even get lego sets which let you build cars and objects from films like Star Wars and Batman.

5. A sweets hamper. I don’t know anybody that doesn’t like sweets or chocolate. Put together a hamper full of sweets and chocolates. It’s a total win!

November Faves

November is a difficult month since the lead up to Christmas is approaching. I don’t often buy anything new for myself throughout November because well money is tight and I know I’ll receive Christmas presents from people the following month so I try to save money.

For beauty this month I’ve been loving the Tartiest Pro Glow To Go palette. I bought this in Sephora whilst in New York and I recently went back to it. It has the most gorgeous highlight tones but I really like the contour shade. When I first bought this I thought it would be to muddy looking on me but once I applied it it actually looked lovely. I apply it in small amounts and eventually build it up and it create a beautiful contoured look.

Along with that, I’ve still been loving the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick in Coral Sass. Now I know that it is winter but I can’t help but love a coral toned lipstick regardless of the season. I just cant help myself and I’m not ready to let this lipstick go. The formula is beautiful and lightweight and I really like that it lasts for so long! Whether I’m eating, drinking or kissing this holiday season, it stays on for ages. I really love the formula so I can’t wait to pick a few more up.

Although I do have favourites this month, firstly, I’ve been loving the TV show Once Upon a Time. I’ve been a big fan for a long time but season 7 has different cast and I’m enjoying how it’s been mixed up. Admittedly, the story line is very similar to the previous seasons but I still can’t get enough of it.

Bonfire night is such a wonderful night, I love going to the fair and firework display with my friends and this year was extra special as I celebrated in Carmarthen! This yesr my friends went home with 4 maybe 5 fish, I gave myself sugar rush after eating a whole bag of candy floss in 10 minutes. We watched the most beautiful firework display and I just had the best night.

During the summer I don’t really wear dresses and skirts but I love to match a skirt or dress with a pair of boots. I’ve been living in denim skirts and a statement t-shift recently and I’m loving it. Winter fashion is so much better than any other season!

Now, something we have all been waiting for. You cannot even deny that when apple gave us Animal Crossing as an app, it was the best Christmas gift ever. Some would call it a Christmas Miracle. I’ve been loooooving this app. I play it all the time, it’s an unhealthy obsession and I may or may not need to go to rehab. I freaking love it and I feel like I can experience childhood all over again with no judging because SO many other adults are playing it too.

My final favourite is spending time with my family. I went home for the weekend to spend some quality time with my niece and nephew and I had so much fun. I really forget how grateful I am to be the auntie of the most wonderful little babies. They’re both growing up so much and seeing them has just gotten made me more excited to see them at Christmas time.

What have your favourites been this month?

5 Secret Santa Gifts For Girls

                                                                    Happy blogmas day 4!

Whether you’re doing secret santa with your friends, in work or for any occasion, it’s often quite difficult to decide what to get for the individual. What if you don’t know them that well? What if you don’t know what they already have? It’s hard! It’s the most difficult part of buying gifts. However, there are ways to go around it.

A lot of the time there are budgets for secret Santa, so all of these possible gifts will be under a £15 limit but definitely decent gifts for a secret Santa.

1. Lush bath bombs. Can’t go a miss really can you? They’re gorgeous and are so fun. Who doesn’t love a bath bomb?

2. A DVD/book and a bottle of wine or box of chocolates. This one is definitely something you could use but remember to get the DVD/book in a genre they’ll like and the wine or chocolates that you know they’ll drink or eat.

3. Socks and pyjamas. Primark do some fantastic Christmas pjs and socks. The only problem with this is one is that you might have guess the clothing size but they’re pyjamas, who cares if they’re a little baggy?

4. Cute stationary. Again, Primark have some beautiful stationary sets. If you’re looking to splash out a bit you could head to paperchase and see what they have.

5. Nobody wants to be that person who gives a gift card but if you know that the person likes a specific shop, you could give them a £15 gift card. For me, I’d be so grateful for a £15 to Debenhams, Boots or Waterstones.

Bio Oil Is A Life Changer

Over the past few months I’ve been using Bio Oil for the first time. I’ve heard about this product and so many of my friends swore by it but I always thought it was pricey but I had severe 2nd (maybe 3rd degree burns) on my arm during august and once the sting had gone and it had started to heal I was using Bio Oil – as I was recommended it, to minimise scaring.

Originally, when I had first burned my arm it was looking like the images below.

It was incredibly painful, it blistered and was severally swollen causing the lack of movement in 2 fingers. It was by far the worst pain I’ve ever experience in my life. After a few times of using this my skin begun to peel quite badly but it was just the Oil removing any dry and dead skin from my affected areas. Honestly, Bio Oil has changed my life and I can imagine I’ll be purchasing so many bottles of this wonderful invention.

My arm now looks like this.

After a few days of using Bio Oil and seeing the change it made to my arm I thought I’d give it a go in other ways. It says that the product can be used for scaring, stretch marks, uneven skin tones and more. I do struggle with stretch marks and I always have done. Since I’ve gained and lost weight recently I thought I’d see if it helped, I apply the Bio Oil twice daily to my stretch marks and a small amount to my skin to help reduce acne scaring and produce a more even type of skin tone.

It’s blown me away. My skin feels softer, the stretch marks are slowly going, my skin tone is evening out. It’s become a normal part of my day to apply this product and I can’t imagine ever imagine not having this in my life now.

Admittedly, this product isn’t a quick solution for your issues. I’ve been using Bio Oil for several months now and didn’t see change in my stretch marks for several weeks. Although I did see change within my burn very quickly but mostly because it was helping my skin to shred itself.

Budgeting as a Student

Budgeting is hard enough without being a student but as a student, it’s 10x worse. People think students are made of money, especially my parents. They think because we get a termly loan in bulk that it lasts forever and we can live off it. This isn’t true at all.

In fact, throughout the whole of my student life I’ve always had money problems and had to work. It just happens. Life happens, you may need dental treatment, car needs insuring or perhaps your laptop breaks. These things happen and you have to decide whether it’s worth funding and whether you have the money for it.

What’s worse is that nobody prepares you to do your own finances. There isn’t a class that you go to before you finish school that helps you figure out how to sort your life out. You’re thrown into the deep end and you’re automatically supposed to know how to do it. In fact, in my first year of uni I was so unprepared that I’ve gone £1000 into an overdraft and haven’t properly paid it back yet.

Before I headed to uni I sat down and tried to figure out how I’ll survive with a very minimal student loan and having to find a job that pays enough to last me a week and allows me to save money.

Step 1: I figured out how much loan I get per term. This allowed me to see what I can pay for and how long the money will last.

Step 2: How much rent do you have to pay? Do you own a car? Children? Pets? Figure out what priorities you have and what you could remove to help minimise the amount of money that goes out each month.

For me, my mum pays my phone bill still so I only had to pay my accommodation, credit card, new look store card and my course fees.

Step 3: Determine how much you have left and how much you need to spend a week to allow you to last the term with the rest of your money.

Step 4: I knew I needed a job to maintain a healthy bank balance during my masters so I figured out how many hours I would need a week to give me enough money to cater for me. I figured I’d need at least a 20 hour a week job that gives me around £140 a week. Most of which I can save.

Helpful tip: Use a budget organiser to keep yourself in track of your finances. Either make your own or you can get one from paperchase and other stores. They’re incredibly worth while for you to figure out what you’ve been spending your money on and areas that you need to cut down on.
