Dating Is Scary

This post is a little different for blogmas but I just wanted to share my advice on dating! I recently jumped back into the dating world (I say recently, a few weeks ago..) but I’ve really enjoyed it.

This year I had a break up and I honestly thought it was the end of the world, spoiler.. lol no it wasn’t.  However, the thought of dating again terrified me for a few months. I was certain that all guys are the same and that they would all break my heart and I quickly learnt that they are. In fact, there are some really genuine guys out there.

What I’ve realised though is that I had no intention of rushing into dating again. So when I started thinking of whether I was actually ready, I waited it out another few weeks just to be really sure. The real reason for this though was to really make sure that I completely experienced being totally alone so I knew completely that I wasn’t just going back into dating because I’m lonely or needing to rely on someone else to feel stronger.

What helped me realise that I was ready to date in the first place was a rebound. It sounds ridiculous and slutty but it helps. I don’t mean just have sex with a random guy, I mean by all means go ahead but for me, I had sex with a friend and it really helped to improve my self esteem. It might sound so crazy that my self esteem got boosted from having sex but it really did. It made me feel good, his affection made me feel appreciated and beautiful again.

So, when did I decide that I was ready to jump back on the bandwagon and date again? At around 3 months post break up, I truly knew that I was completely ready. I first experienced the feelings at around 2 months post break up. I knew full well that I wasn’t completely over the break up and I was still feeling fragile so I didn’t want to go into the dating life still feeling vulnerable. I also especially didn’t want to date someone and not end up feeling the same as the guy may. It wouldn’t be nice for him nor I and it would just result in a series of bad dating. I had offers from guys and I had said no because of these reasons, although one of those guys did his fair share of grafting with me and asked me a second time, I did eventually say yes.

To be totally honest, I don’t think anybody is ever really ready to start dating after having a serious relationship. I think there is a point where you just have to throw yourself back at it because if you don’t, before you know it you’ll be single a year and a half later not knowing how to flirt and socialise with guys. Still thinking that you’ll be alone forever and considering which type of cat or dog to get.

As interesting as that sounds, do you really want to be that person? I know I don’t. I want to experience the thrill and fun of a new relationship, those butterflies you get when he calls you beautiful or when you see him for the first time after a few days. Those firsts, the first kiss, first holiday, first time you tell them you love them.

So honestly, if you’re in the same position, my biggest and best advice is to just go for it. Talk to that guy in the club, download tinder, tell them you like them. The worst thing that can happen is that you get let down, he says no, the relationship didn’t work. You’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince but I can assure you, you’ll find them. You won’t be alone forever and you are worthy of love.

Christmas at the Davies Residence

Christmas is my favourite time of year but I especially enjoy the 3 main days of Christmas with my family. It’s definitely the 1 time a year that we truly get on and put our differences behind us. My mum really tries her hardest every single year to make Christmas the most perfect time of year and without fail she always does.

Her every effort during November and December is to make sure that her family, our family, receive the best Christmas ever. She never fails us. With that in mind, my mum begins to prepare for Christmas in September, which might seem crazy but her first wages in September contributes towards gifts, decorations and food to help us have the most incredible Christmas ever.

For those 3 days, we have the most incredible time. Don’t get me wrong, as a I child we did experience it differently but as an adult, I’m so grateful and appreciate everything at Christmas time and it does help me to realise everything that I am grateful for throughout the year.

Christmas Eve in our house is generally pretty chilled, from the early morning mum  will be preparing and start cooking the meat for our rather large Christmas dinner. Generally, each year we have turkey, beef and chicken to see us through Christmas Day and Boxing Day (you’ll learn why). This might seem a lot but we have a large family and really, can you over eat at Christmas?

Once I’m finally awake I’ll help mum prepare vegetables, sort out the chocolates, crisps etc. For as long as I can remember, mum has always put out chocolates, crisps, nuts and Bombay mix as snacks around the living room and kitchen area. We don’t get to eat these until Christmas Eve afternoon as technically, this is when we start celebrating our Christmas. We also make sure the house is fully clean by the afternoon and perfect ready for when we finally settle down.

By the afternoon when we have finished preparing, we all try and settle down in our Christmas Eve pjs, after having showers and baths, to a Christmas film. My mum visits our neighbour to wish him and his family a merry Christmas so my brother and I like to hang out together, eating snacks and starting celebrating our Christmas.

Mum always works either Christmas Eve morning or Boxing Day morning (sometimes the afternoon) as she works in a residential home. Therefore, we don’t open any gifts until mum comes in from work. So for the morning my brother, sister in law, niece and nephew will go and visit Jade’s family before finally coming to our family home around 11am with some of the kids toys for us to play with them. They’re always so excited so we like to do everything we can to help them have the best Christmas too. We have either Christmas music playing or a Christmas film at all times during December and we try and make sure we don’t eat too much food so we can indulge during the afternoon.

We also like to go and visit my nan whilst mums in work to make sure she’s OK, give her our gifts and spend some time with our relatives! It’s one of my favourite parts of Christmas Day as I’m so grateful that the family all come together. A few minutes before mum comes home I’ll put the vegetables on the hob and start cooking and once mum comes in she’ll take over, the woman is an absolute god.

Then we finally get to open our gifts together and we always let Gracie and Ethan dig in as soon as she gets home as they do get inpatient. Each year we all have our own little corners of the living room and every year, Gracie (my 7 year old niece)  and I share a corner because we just love to open our gifts together and we love to see what each other received. Once everybody has opened our gifts we generally just chill, watch a film and look at all the wonderful things we received before having the most incredible dinner.

We don’t own a table so I always eat my food sat on the floor with the kids but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We all make such a mess of ourselves because well, they’re children and at Christmas, there are no rules. So whether they manage to throw mashed potato everywhere or pinch each other’s food. We don’t mind, as long as they’re happy. Once our food has settled, we don’t stop there.. dessert is everybody’s favourite in our house. Mum always has a massive selection from chocolate cake, cheesecake, profiteroles or fruit bowls. Whatever we want, we get and it’s incredible. After a few hours of lounging around, playing with the kids and enjoying each other’s company (more than likely a little bicker here and there from my brothers and I, we start to play games for the rest of the evening before finally settling down for bed. The kids, Jade and Kyle do go home around 7/8pm to settle the kids down because it will have been a long day for them.

However, Boxing Day in our house is our absolute favourite! At some point during the day we manage to see every single member of our huge family, all our relatives stop by ready for mums infamous homemade chips, cold meat and salad. We love it, it’s a total win in our house and every year the house is filled with love, happiness and total manic. It’s incredible. The kids have the best day spending time with each other (there are many, many children. We have music playing, games going, laughter spreading throughout the house and so much love like you can’t imagine.

Honestly, I couldn’t ever imagine not spending Christmas with this crazy bunch. Most importantly, I’m so incredibly thankful for my mum who every year, manages to make Christmas in the Davies residence an absolute dream.

Eating Clean At Christmas

With Christmas being such a festive time of year we all know that we eat and drink far too much. Then January comes around and instantly we’re all on a total health kick trying to lose the weight we gained by eating boxes of celebrations and pigs in blankets.

Can we really blame ourselves? Christmas is once a year and the holiday season is full of parties, events and special times that we can’t help ourselves but indulge on our favourite foods. It’s hard to eat healthy during the year let alone at Christmas!

I do have a few tips for making sure we keep to our diets and not gain an extra stone in weight to add more pressure to overselves in January. I’m by no means an angel at this, I can’t help but open the chocolates and treats when everybody else does but this year I’ve promised myself that I’ll be making better choices but still be happy and comfortable when making those bad ones.

I’ve said it before but it’s natural that we all need our treats but in limits. So, if you know you have an event or party to go to where you’ll be drinking and eating foods you normally wouldn’t. Prepare yourself throughout the day, eat healthier and lighter and work out harder. After you’ve treated yourself, instead of falling back into bad habits the next morning, make good ones. Whether you like it or not, eat the fruit, work out and be excited for your next treat. One meal does not ruin a whole diet and you won’t gain 7lb from eating a few chocolates or some greasy food.

When I’m at home in the evenings and the treats are out, staring at me from across the room, I always resist temptation and grab the tin. However, this year, instead of grabbing the tin I’ve portioned up the chocolates into packets to limit myself to how many I can have. In each packet I’ve put 4 chocolates, which I think is actually quite generous. There’s no harm in 4 sma chocolates whilst watching the TV. Again though, resist temptation throughout the day and drink plenty of water.

On that note, drink lots of water and distract yourself. Half the time you aren’t even hungry but the thought of having a chocolate is just mouth watering. Drinking water will keep you hydrated and fill that need for food.

A final note, don’t feel guilty. It’s Christmas and we all deserve to treat ourselves. You get one month out of the year to really celebrate and embrace your achievements and life and the gift of family, friends and loving. So enjoy it!

Growing Up With Brothers

I could never imagine myself being an only child. Admittedly, having been raised as an only girl with two older brothers I definitely wished as a child that I was an only child. Now as an adult I’ve realised that being raised with two older brothers impacted my life incredibly and without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. Regardless of anything we go through, my siblings are 100% the people who have given me the most motivation to be a better me and they influence everything I do. I have two older brothers, Kyle and Daniel. Growing up is difficult for anybody, however I found growing up with two brothers to be so bloody difficult. So today, I thought I would share with you guys how having two older brothers shaped me into the person I am today.

As I said before, I have two brothers who I love dearly but I am definitely closer to Daniel than Kyle. That doesn’t mean I love them any different or have a favourite (that’s a lie, it’s Daniel) but they both equally motivate me and have been the most influential people to shape who I am and want to be as an adult. Let’s start with Kyle, my oldest brother. Kyle and I have an 8 year age difference and I do this that this age gap has been the biggest issue  within our relationship. Daniel and I are only 2 years apart and are closer now as adults than we ever have been before.

Generally all of us are quite introverted and like to have our own space so we rarely spend time together and we definitely never ever spend time together just the three of us. It’s awkward, uncomfortable and I don’t wish it on anybody. Considering we are family it still shocks me that we don’t really have any thing in common with each other. I mean, Daniel and Kyle do but I definitely don’t with Kyle and minimal with Daniel. As a child this was really hard for me because it meant that I spend almost all my time alone and with nobody to hand out with and enjoy the same interests. During my childhood I was definitely more extroverted and thrived for the comfort and conversation from others so I spent a lot of time feeling lonely. As awful as this was for me as a child it helped me so much as an adult as I can now work better independently as well as in groups and has played a huge role in working with groups and interacting better. It has always allowed me to appreciate the alone time I do get and never take for granted being able to do things that I enjoy without being interrupted. I very rarely feel lonely as an adult and I’m pretty sure it’s because I got so used to it as a child it became the norm for me which I actually love now.

The biggest issue I had in my life was that I lacked femininity. I have my mum but she doesn’t wear makeup and doesn’t enjoy anything to do with fashion, books or anything I’m interested in. Which may seem like a surprise to most since I was the only girl and my mum would have a lot of time for me. However, it’s not the case at all. I taught myself how to use makeup using YouTube and used the internet, magazines and TV for fashion inspriration. I learned what I know from the media. I think having a closer bond with my mum would have made a huge impact on my friendships with other girls as I’d be able to understand most about what they enjoyed from an earlier age.

My parents always expected me to act the same way as my brothers and so often I was asked “why aren’t you more like your brothers?”. This infuriated me and made me so angry every single time I heard it. My parents never accepted that not only was I younger than my brothers but also a differen gender with different interests and ideas. Having heard this for so long during my teenage years I rebelled a lot and decided to go things I knew my brothers wouldn’t do because it would disappoint my parents and I didn’t care. To me, the more I wasn’t like my brothers the better and I enjoyed it that way as much as I do as an adult.

Regardless of these issues I loved my childhood and thoroughly enjoyed having wrestling fights and tickling matches and oversized tshirts to wear. My parents worked hard to give us the best that they could and I’ll be eternally grateful for the life they gave me an my brothers.

Essence Touch Blush // Review

It’s Christmas eve! Since it’s thr end of Blogmas I thought there would be nothing better than to end it with a couple of posts about beauty. Especially these Essence blushes. I mentioned them in my November favourites and I just have to dedicate a whole post just about them. They’re brilliant and I’ve been in love with them for a fair few weeks now. They’re my go to blushes for this autumn and they go well with so many makeup looks.

I got both of these for £1 each in Wilkinson and I didn’t even think they would be worth anything. I had so little hope in these that I had already planned to give them to my 6 year old niece and to my shock they were beautiful. The pigment is outstanding for the price and the colours are so neutral and pretty. I picked up two shades, a satin blush called Satin Love which I mostly wear and literally matches with so many makeup looks. I especially love this with a bronze-glow and red lip. The second shade is a matte shade called Berry Me Up and is a soft, pink blush which creates a lovely, natural blush. I really like to wear this with a low-coverage foundation and lots of highlight to create a minimal makeup look.

I couldn’t be happier with these blushes and if i’m honest, I would have paid a lot more for them than £1. The formula is beautiful and definitely feels like a higher priced product. Over the moon and can see me loving these for so long. What are your favourite blushes? let me know.

What’s In My Bag // 2016

I’m well aware that so many people do these posts but i’m so nosey and I love to see what other people hoard around with them on a daily basis. I thought that because I’m nosey perhaps others are too and fancy taking a look into my handbag. I’m unlikely to mention these things into great detail but most girls, if not all will keep a selection of sanitary products because well, safety first. I also have a variety of clips available and a bobble or two. These are just basic and necessary products that I use on a daily basis and I like to keep just in case of emergencies. You never know when you’re going to need them. I also keep my iPhone SE with me at all times as well as my keys. I don’t go very far without either of them and I will always use the calendar on my phone to remind myself of my daily events. I’m super forgetful so if I don’t write it down, I’ll forget to go.

Firstly, let’s discuss the bag. My handbag is a River Island Limited Edition Suede Messenger bag, I paid £26 for this. Take a look here. It’s a Faux suede bag in  a cross-body style with external zip pockets and a zip top fastening. It’s quite deep and can hold the useful necessities I use for my day to day lifestyle. I often use this bag everyday and will mix between the things I need everyday.  However, these things are without fail always in my bag and have done whilst using my previous bags.

* apologise for the awful photo, I struggled having only one hand *

The first thing that I always have my purse with me. Mainly because I carry my money, university card and my bank cards with me. It’s quite an obvious object to carry around with me and It’s something I know that everybody carries with them. I will carry this with me on a daily basis, even if I don’t have any plans to spend any money but you never know if you’re going to need it. This is also a River Island bag and I paid £17 for this. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be available on the website and has possibly been discontinued.

I also always keep a selection of lipsticks, usually Mac Lovelorn, Mac Taupe and the Tanya Burr Cosmetics lip gloss in Lunch Date. Admittedly, these three lip products are always in my bag because I often forget they’re there and I often just keep them there instead of losing them. I do love these lip products though, especially the Tanya Burr Cosmetics lip gloss in Lunch Date, it’s a very natural nude lip that is basically my lip colour but better. It’s a very lightweight gloss and it’s beautiful to wear with a natural look or a glam eye.

A notepad is obviously necessary for university as I write down so much during lectures and through meetings, library sessions and general reminders. I do remove this on the weekends or if i’m taking a shopping trip though. Along with a notepad, I obviously require a pen and I usually add highlighters just in case. These are a total necessity for my lifestyle as a university student and even when i’m not a student anymore I’ll probably still carry one around. This is my current favourite, I love me a superhero or two.

My iPad is usually with me on the days i’m heading onto campus, I like to use it for assignments or reading in my free time. It’s the iPad Air and it’s perfect, light weight and easy for everyday use. I also use this to make notes in lectures if I can’t be bothered to pop out the notepad and use a pen (Usually those 9ams) or if I have forgotten the notepad.

The final thing that is always in my bag, is my my iPod and earphones.  I find that music is a motivation for me and although I can’t listen to music whilst writing an assignment (I become super distracted) I do like to listen to a few songs to help motivate me into writing another. Usually something upbeat and something I can dance too, this helps to create a little bit of energy in preparation for an assignment or lecture.

These are the main things that are usually in my bad, what are your necessities in your bag?! let me know.

My Rainy Day Playlist.

Music doesn’t come so easy to me, I’m really fussy with the types of music that I listen to.  I’m not the biggest music fan and I honestly, prefer a book and silence. I really struggle to listen to music whilst I’m reading or working because it becomes a total distraction and all I want to do is dance. However, on those rainy day’s and I want to be lazy and relax, I’ll cuddle up with my iPod or have a bath and play these songs. I hope you enjoy.

Jessie James Decker: Lights Out Low

Paramore: Ain’t It Fun

Josh Turner:  Your Man

All Time Low: Therapy

Passenger: Let Her Go

Green Day: Boulevard of Broken Dreams

City and Colour: The Girl

Gavin Degraw: I Don’t Wanna Be

The Fray: How to Save a Life

McFly: Star Girl

One Direction: History

George Ezra: Budapest

The Lumineers: Ho Hey

Kelly Clarkson: Piece By Piece

Rachel Platten: Fight Song

Sleeping With Sirens: November

Lukas Graham: Mama Said

Labrinth: Jealous

These are my ‘rainy days songs’ some of them are upbeat, others are soft and slow. It’s a variety of music that I find relaxing and comforting to me. Let me know your favourites!
