10 Benefits of Exercising

I recently started to take exercising more seriously and don’t get me wrong, I’m no expert at all. Although that doesn’t mean I haven’t become aware of the perks of exercising whilst doing it, my body has been changing but not only that, my mental health. Whether it’s my shape, my skin or my mind, I’m finding that there are so many benefits from exercising and it’s encouraged me to do it more.

It has so many benefits, most of which I never knew or understood for a long time. In fact, the thought of exercise used to give me major lazy-bones syndrome. I hated everything to do with exercise for so long and when I eventually started taking my weight loss seriously I just knew that I wanted to increase my chances of loss and changing my body shape by adding exercise to my plan.

Exercise is different for everybody and people change in accordance to their mind and body. These are the things I’ve noticed that have happened since I’ve started taking exercise more seriously but I would love for you to share with me your feelings on exercise!

I used to exercise religiously, in fact it probably wasn’t at all healthy. However, after minimising the amount I exercise and finding a balance between what makes me happy, I have noticed the benefits that come from exercising. So, what benefits have I noticed from exercising? Continue reading to find out.

1. I do struggle with acne and I always have but I’ve found since exercising my skin has become so much more clear. Perhaps this is the amount of water I’m now drinking, the healthy balanced diet and exercise combined. Whatever it is, it’s working and I’m very happy!

2. Exercise boosts your endophines, meaning that you’ll become less stressed, anxious, angry and confused.

3. You’ll feel more confident seeing changes to your body. You’ll try on your old clothes and start feeling more yourself again enjoy the skin you’re in.

4. Eating healthy and exercising can decrease your chances of being unwell and having to fight those nasty winter colds. As well as improving your blood pressure.

5.  Your balance will improve along with your flexibility! I really encourage yoga for balance and flexibility, it’s a great workout and I’ve found my body has become more flexible in just the few months that I’ve been practicing.

6. Improves your sleeping pattern. I sleep so much better than ever! Getting between 8-10 hours a night.

7. You will have picked up a new hobby so instead of spending your time doing nothing whilst sat at home, head out and exercise. It passes the time away and makes you feel good.

8. It’s mentally stimulating which helps productivity throughout the day. For me, if I’ve got an essay to write or reading to do I’ll always start my day off with a workout to aid my energy levels.

9. Your lung capacity will improve and you’ll find yourself with better stamina. At the beginning I noticed this change and you will too, eventually you’ll be doing certain exercises like jogging better with your ability to control your breathing through the session.

10. Exercise gives you a better outlook on life, it helps with your mental health drastically and can seriously reduce depression and anxiety. Along with that you can decrease your chances of having diabetes, heart problems as well as a strokes by up to 50%.

Before my masters degree I wasn’t ever keen on exercising, I didn’t know what I was doing and I couldn’t control my breathing correctly. With time you’ll adjust and you’ll learn how to successfully control your breathing, for me, yoga did this. I practiced yoga before starting the gym and it really helped me to learn how to control my breathing when in poses and sessions that are hard.  Don’t get me wrong, I do struggle to find the time for it as I’ve gotten busier these past few weeks, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t like to exercise. In fact, I enjoy it more!

My Curves

I have never been a small, skinny girl. Ever since puberty began I gained weight and my body shaped formed into curves, big booty and big boobs and over time I learnt that there isn’t anything wrong with that. I spent all of my adolescent years and even now at 21 struggling with body confidence, being ashamed of the body I have and feeling that I couldn’t be proud of the body I was given because it isn’t what society deems beautiful. But I am beautiful. I may not be skinny but my curves are a part of me and I feel so damn sexy in them. It’s baffling how many girls feel that they aren’t sexy because they aren’t a specific size.

In the UK the average woman is a size 14-16. In my wardrobe my clothes vary from size 10, 12, 14 and I even own a size 16 dress. So what am I? above average? Below average? or average? Does my size of clothes determine whether I am healthy? Does my body shape make any difference to anybody other than myself?

In the summer of 2015 I lost almost 2 stone in weight and I didn’t feel any healthier than before. I went from weighing 13’6 stone to 11’10 and although I knew I looked good. I didn’t feel good. I was afraid to eat in case I gained weight, I was so happy every time the numbers stopped on the scale. I wasn’t enjoying my food. Losing weight took over my life and nothing would stop me. Nothing made me happy like losing weight. Then I met Matt. Matt and I met in September 2015 just after I lost the weight. Right from the start he made me so happy, loved me for my curves and my edges. His love helped me to start eating properly again and enjoy my food. It wasn’t easy but I became happy again, remembered what I loved about my body. My body loves me.

The biggest problem for me is feeling comfortable in clothes and I know how challenging it is to find outfits that make you look and feel beautiful. Here are a few outfits that I like and flatter y curves. Don’t fear them, love them.

This bodycon dress makes me feel so comfortable and I think it’s really flattering on me. I like that it doesn’t make me look massive (or so I think). I even like that it does place emphasis on curves. That evening I felt so good and comfortable!

I freaking love skirts. I love showing off my legs and although I don’t always feel comfortable doing so. I know that I should mainly for my self esteem. This photo was taken on a holiday in Spain last year and I pretty much lived in skirts and vest tops and I loved every minute of it.

This photo was taken after I had lost weight and now I look at it, I don’t look much smaller thank am now. I still love this dress and how basic it is.

In fact, I think in all of these photos I look different. My body changes all the time and I’m thankful to now understand and truly believe that weight does not determine your worth, whether you’re more valued and most definitely not whether you’re loved.

Be kind to yourself, love your body and remember that you’re not just your weight.

The OA // Worth Watching?

I tend to mix between books and TV series quite often and after reading several books I decided it was time to start watching something new. So as I do, I headed to Netflix and seen that they had added some new shows and movies and among all the options I came across The OA remembering that so many people had been talking about it on Twitter I made the choice to give it a go. It’s newly released with only 1 series and 8 1 hour episodes.

Prairie Johnson had been missing for 7 years until she was spotted jumping off a bridge. Despite having been blind due to an accident as a child she could see. Prairie now goes by ‘The OA’ instead of her adoptive name and refuses to share any information from her disappearance. In hopes to save others like her she assembles a team of 5 to help her find others who have been experiencing the same situation as her.

So is it worth watching? definitely! I was 12 minutes into the first episode and totally hooked. You think, how is it possible to be to into a show only 12 minutes in? Well, it’s different. Totally different to any other show I’ve ever seen. The OA’s story is like no other and is totally unique which made me even more interested in the rest of her story. Throughout series one you met new characters who bring the story to life and allow you to understand more about the situation. One specific character (a scientist, I won’t spoil it!) really interested me the most as he was someone who could definitely exist in this world. An utter nut job, crazy weird guy.

I think this show is brilliant and I can’t wait for season 2! You guys should definitely watch it and let me know what you think. You’ll definitely like this show if you’ve watched Stranger Things.

Essence Touch Blush // Review

It’s Christmas eve! Since it’s thr end of Blogmas I thought there would be nothing better than to end it with a couple of posts about beauty. Especially these Essence blushes. I mentioned them in my November favourites and I just have to dedicate a whole post just about them. They’re brilliant and I’ve been in love with them for a fair few weeks now. They’re my go to blushes for this autumn and they go well with so many makeup looks.

I got both of these for £1 each in Wilkinson and I didn’t even think they would be worth anything. I had so little hope in these that I had already planned to give them to my 6 year old niece and to my shock they were beautiful. The pigment is outstanding for the price and the colours are so neutral and pretty. I picked up two shades, a satin blush called Satin Love which I mostly wear and literally matches with so many makeup looks. I especially love this with a bronze-glow and red lip. The second shade is a matte shade called Berry Me Up and is a soft, pink blush which creates a lovely, natural blush. I really like to wear this with a low-coverage foundation and lots of highlight to create a minimal makeup look.

I couldn’t be happier with these blushes and if i’m honest, I would have paid a lot more for them than £1. The formula is beautiful and definitely feels like a higher priced product. Over the moon and can see me loving these for so long. What are your favourite blushes? let me know.

Book Review: What Alice Knew

Before getting into this weeks book review I feel that I should address a few little things.. Number one, I understand that this review is on a Wednesday this week. This is because I’m a part of a blog tour for this book! Take a look at other bloggers reviews, the dates are attached below.

Number 2, to follow through, this book was sent to me and is due to be released in April 2017!

The book is by T.A Cotterell and is called What Alice Knew. I will admit that recently I’ve been going through stages and all  I read is the thriller/mystery genre, this has given me a chance to thoroughly review this as I can compare it to the previous books I’ve read. Now, that being said amongst the books I’ve recently read, this has been my favourite. In fact I knew it would be once I reached the middle of the book and couldn’t put it down. It was fantastic. Bloody loved it, well done Mr Cotterell! You’ve done brilliantly. This psychological thriller had me feeling all sorts, straight from the beginning and by the end I was left in utter disbelief.

Alice had the perfect life with her husband the doctor and two children. Her career as an artist was blooming and life was going well until an unexpected turn and it left her feeling unhappy and confused about making the right decision. To make things worse an old friend from her past has sprung back into her life she realised that it definitely wasn’t a pleasant surprise. Now it’s time for Alice to make big decisions even if it does have big consequences for her loved ones.

I totally recommend purchasing this book if you like something that gives you an unpredictable ending (don’t we all?). I read this book after I read B.A Paris, Behind Closed Doors and even though I loved both I definitely think I preferred What Alice Knew. It was brilliant and intelligent.

October Favourites

The month of October is ending and now I can share with you all what i’ve been loving this month. Just a little warning now but this months favourites is kinda boring. Having broken my dominant hand i’ve not been wearing much make up or styling my own hair (Thank you Tasha, Meg and Nimbob for being my very own stylists). However, there are a few little bits that i’ve grown to love a whole lot.

I received my first Birch Box, the September edition during the first few days of October. Later that week followed by my October edition. I love these boxes, I pay £12.95 (inc p+p) a month and I received 5 new products to try and test out. I think the beauty subscription boxes are fantastic, I always love trialling new products but I never know what I want because the selection is so wide. Each month i’ll be posting about what I received in the box, be sure to check them out. Go back and look at my September, here & October unboxing here.

On the same path of my Birch Boxes, I recently received the Rituals Magic Touch Body Cream. I hadn’t ever tried anything from Rituals and I am definitely not going back now. It’s so, so, so super moisturising and hydrating on my skin. Currently my right arm is out of use because of my broken wrist and because I’m trying not to get it as wet as I can in case I ruin the cast. I’ve been using this moisturiser on my arms in the morning and night. It’s been a life saver, especially because my arms are so dry at the moment. It’s fantastic and I definitely think I’ll be repurchasing.

Behind Closed Doors by B.A Paris is a book I’ve been meaning to get around to reading but never having the time. I recently read this and I now see why so many people raved about it. It’s brilliant, written so well and keeps you wanting more and more after every chapter. It was one of those books that doesn’t give away any clues. Utterly fantastic. My review will be up within the next few weeks, be sure to look out for it.

Little Mix have released a song from their new and fourth album called Shout Out to My Ex. It’s bloomin’ great and so catchy. 100% was written with a person in mind for each of the girls. Especially for me, whenever I listen to it I know exactly which of my ex boyfriends I relate it too. It was sang on X-Factor and they sang it so well. They’ve come along way since winning the X-Factor in 2011. However, their outfit choices for their performance on x-factor were slightly revealing but regardless the song is fantastic.

I bought the Bourjois Radiance Concealer in Superdrug for £8 check here. I love it, for a drugstore concealer it’s so full coverage and light below the eyes. I got mine in shade 1 to highlight my undereyes and hide my dark circles. I love it so much, will definitely be repurchasing.

These few little things are what I’ve been enjoying throughout the month of October. Since I’ve still only got one working arm I’ve not been trying many new products so I’m really looking forward to having the cast removed.

Let me know what you’ve been loving this month, take a look at my social media.
