Are Beauty Advent Calendar’s Worth The Hype?

Beauty Advent Calendar’s have been raved about for years now but especially more popular these past 2/3 years. I’ve had my eye on the benefit ones for a while now and this year I finally caved and got it. However, what happened to the usual chocolate advent calendars? Are we just too advanced for the simple things in life?

The Benefit calendar isn’t the only one available, there are so many from ASOS, Soap and Glory, Makeup Revolution and so many more. Generally the calendars do range, I paid £34.50 for the Benefit calendar and it has 12 days of luxury sized products. For the price you do receive some decent sized products and a lot of them are some of the best sellers.

Do I think they’re worth it though? I do think some of them are most definitely worth the money. Although some, such as the Zoella Advent calendar is high priced and you receive a pen as one of the items. I think a calendar that is above drugstore pricing shouldn’t be giving out pens unless it has some form of cool advanced action like it doubles up as a sword. Same again for the ASOS calendar, how can they expect customers to be happy with a 20% discount?! We get them all the time.

Don’t get me wrong, I like my calendar but I don’t think  I’ll be repurchasing one go Christmas 2018. I like the simplicity and novelty of a chocolate advent calendar.

Bio Oil Is A Life Changer

Over the past few months I’ve been using Bio Oil for the first time. I’ve heard about this product and so many of my friends swore by it but I always thought it was pricey but I had severe 2nd (maybe 3rd degree burns) on my arm during august and once the sting had gone and it had started to heal I was using Bio Oil – as I was recommended it, to minimise scaring.

Originally, when I had first burned my arm it was looking like the images below.

It was incredibly painful, it blistered and was severally swollen causing the lack of movement in 2 fingers. It was by far the worst pain I’ve ever experience in my life. After a few times of using this my skin begun to peel quite badly but it was just the Oil removing any dry and dead skin from my affected areas. Honestly, Bio Oil has changed my life and I can imagine I’ll be purchasing so many bottles of this wonderful invention.

My arm now looks like this.

After a few days of using Bio Oil and seeing the change it made to my arm I thought I’d give it a go in other ways. It says that the product can be used for scaring, stretch marks, uneven skin tones and more. I do struggle with stretch marks and I always have done. Since I’ve gained and lost weight recently I thought I’d see if it helped, I apply the Bio Oil twice daily to my stretch marks and a small amount to my skin to help reduce acne scaring and produce a more even type of skin tone.

It’s blown me away. My skin feels softer, the stretch marks are slowly going, my skin tone is evening out. It’s become a normal part of my day to apply this product and I can’t imagine ever imagine not having this in my life now.

Admittedly, this product isn’t a quick solution for your issues. I’ve been using Bio Oil for several months now and didn’t see change in my stretch marks for several weeks. Although I did see change within my burn very quickly but mostly because it was helping my skin to shred itself.

The Great Brownanza

Benefit have released a lot of products across the year but they’re famously popular for their incredible brow range. I’m a huge fan of the goof proof brow pencil but since the products are expensive I’ve never managed to purchase them and test out whether they’re genuinely worth buying.

So, recently on a trip to my local Debenhams, I come across some of the Christmas releases that let’s be fair, look incredible. However, the one that really caught my eye is The Great Brownanza. This is a box of 5 full size brow products and 2 brow tools for £49.50. To buy these products out of the set it would cost around £120 so you’re saving an absolute fortune of £70! This is the ideal gift in my eyes. It has enough brow products to last you at least 6 months and as well allows you to try and test products that have caught your eye but you’ve been anxious about buying them because of the price range.

What do you get? In this set you’re given 5 full size products which are the Benefit Gimme Brow, Benefit Brow Zings, Benefit Goof Proof Pencil, Benefit Ka-Brow and the Benefit High Brow Pencil. You’re also given an angled brow brush with a spoolie attached and a brow mapping tool. Essentially, you receive 7 products at an incredible price so can you really not consider this as a purchase?

The prices of each product individually are:

Benefit Gimme Brow – £20

Benefit Goof Proof Pencil – £20

Benefit Brow Zings – £26.50

Benefits Ka-Brow – £20

Benefit High Brow – £18.50

We all know by now that Benefit have 5 shade ranges in their brow products. Going from 1 to 5, from light to dark. Now, I purchased mine in shade 3 and usually I mix between shade 3 and 4 but now I’m blonde again I’ll happily use shade 3 so this is perfect for me. You can also buy this set in shade 5 but it does not come in any other shade ranges. This is definitely the only fault with the set that it doesn’t come in the lighter shade which means for those who are light blondes with blonde eyebrows, this isn’t catering for you guys. If you like a strong, dark brow then these are the ideal set for you really.

Honestly, this has been my favourite release of 2017 so far and I haven’t even tried all the products. I totally urge you guys to go out and get one, order it online and indulge on

My favourite Disney films

I’m an avid Disney fan, how can you not be? But I definitely have my favourites just like everybody. In fact, I have 5 favourite Disney films that I repeatedly watch and fall in love with every single time. I’ve been collecting the Disney classics this year and my collection is very slowly expanding. I’m hoping Santa brings me a few of my favourites this year.

Disney has always been a huge part of my life since childhood and having been the younger sister of two older brothers, I often got to choose what we would watch and without fail, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was always my first choice. I loved it, my favourite drawf is Sleepy because he reminds me so much of myself. I love a good nap. Snow White is my favourite Disney princess and I just like how innocent she is also the youngest of all the princesses. This was and always been my overall favourite Disney film.

My second favourite is Big Hero Six. Having recently been released I wasn’t that fussed on watching it but once I did I was so overwhelmed with the story. It wasn’t your traditional Disney film and it actually represented the feelings and emotions of grief and depression through loss of a loved one. It’s brilliant and it also makes me a lot happier that Fall Out Boy sang the ending song.

My next favourite is The Aristocats. I bloody love this film which is surprising since I’m not an animal lover and especially not cats. However this film so freaking cute, Marie is my favourite because she’s full of so much attitude and sass. I actually first saw this when I was 16, definitely not a childhood love but it’s grown on me and now it’s the film I will always watch when I feel unwell.

My fourth favourite is Frozen. Some of you may really dislike this option but I don’t care. This film is bloody great, it’s not about romantic love but sibling love. It’s the total opposite to the normal Disney film and I think that’s what brings so much character this film. Olaf is so cute and bubbly, I want him in my life.

My final favourite is Cool Running’s. It’s not animated and is actually based on the true story of the Olympic Jamaican bobsledders. It’s utterly fantastic and so funny. I first watched this with my brothers when I was a kid and now I can’t even count how many times this film has been watched by me and made me bubble with love and happiness. It made me want a lucky egg for so long.

There we have my top 5 favourite Disney films. What’s yours? Let me know!

DIY // Face Masks

When I first started my blog I had purchased some face masks and began to understand why people loved them so much. Having been new to face masks I wasn’t sure what to expect and whether they were just a gimmick, I was wrong. They’re fab. However, I’m aware that they can be very expensive and sometimes not worth breaking the bank for.

Truthfully, face masks have become a necessity in my skin care because they help to brighten and make my skin glow, reduce my acne, pores, and blackheads and simply allow my make up to sit better on my face. What more could you want?

For us people on a budget or those simply looking to have some fun,  DIY face masks are the way forward. Using natural ingredients that you’re likely to already have in your kitchen you can create your own face masks and save penny’s whilst having fun!

So, I’ve spent the last few weeks creating and testing out some DIY face masks. The ones I’ve mentioned are the ones I believe actually work and are worth creating, however, go ahead and try out some others. Take a look on Pinterest for some inspiration and get creating the perfect face mask.

Mask #1:

I was looking for a mask that would brighten and illuminate my skin as a glowy base for my make up or just for every day when I don’t want to wear make up. I mixed 1 TBSP of coconut oil and 1 TSP of baking soda to help my skin look brighter and make it so soft. Apply the mask and gently rub in circular motions for 2-3 minutes, remove with warm water and pat dry.  It’s as easy as that! If you don’t have any coconut oil it can be purchased from Amazon or in Boots for less than £5 and it also a useful and harmless way to remove makeup naturally.

Mask #2:

I’m prone to acne and my face is often red and has blemishes. I was looking for a mask that helped to decrease blemishes and redness as well as reduce current acne and prevent it too. This mask will also help with fine lines and wrinkles but most importantly helps to create a healthy and nourished skin. I mixed 1 TBSP of coconut oil and a pinch of turmeric. This combination will reduce any imperfections as well as allow the skin to feel healthier and look more nourished. Apply for 15 minutes, rinse with cold water and pat dry.

Mask #3:

As I said before, I’m prone to acne and pimples and my skin is quite sensitive. I was looking for a mask that would be gentle on my skin but also fight against acne and pimples. I mixed 1 TBSP of coconut oil and 2 TBSP of honey to create this mask. You should apply it for 20 minutes, rinse with cold water and then pat dry.

I used each of these masks 3 times a week to see a difference and I definitely did. I loved how soft and replenished my skin was and how beautiful these masks allowed my make up to sit. They’re also super fun to make and don’t break the bank at all.

Let me know your favourite face masks.

Book Review: We Are All Completely Besides Ourselves

Another weekly book review, remember to check them out every Friday at 1pm. This weeks review is by far the weirdest of them all, it’s by the author Karen Joy Fowler and is called, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. Usually when I begin a new book I’ve normally finished it within a few days, except this one. This one took me near two weeks to read and not because it was boring or didn’t make me enthusiastic. It did, in fact whenever I picked it up I would be reading for ages. However, once I had read a few chapters I found that I had to put it down for a few days for the story line and information to actually sink in. I got all types of confused about this book.

The story is told by Rosemary, daughter of a psychologist. Now 22 years old and in college Rosemary begins to think more and more about her beloved brother, Lowell and sister, Fern. Realising that in order to move on she must make peace with her past and begin to relive the time at 5 years old, having been sent home from her grandparents to find Fern gone.

Now, you’ve probably read the above paragraph thinking there is the possibility that both siblings somehow died, possible kidnapping etc. Well stop, you’re wrong. I don’t want to give too much away in case some of you are really interested in this book. However, what I will say is that this book is 308 pages of utter confusion but totally captivating and brilliantly written. It’s so smart and gripping, the intelligence is overwhelming. I do think i’m probably going to re-read this overtime just because it was so educating. Recommend to those who love anything educational or psychological!

Author Review: Giovanna Fletcher

Hey, Guys!

This week’s book review is slightly different, I’m not just reviewing a book this week but discussing the author, the incredible Giovanna Fletcher. Having been a huge McFly fan for so long when I had heard that Tom Fletcher’s wife had released her first novel I almost burst with excitement, as I have done for all her books. Each year I anticipate the arrival of her new release with hopes that it’ll be as good as the last and she is yet to fail me.

About Giovanna Fletcher:

Giovanna is an author, actress, mother, wife, YouTuber, blogger and all round spectacular woman. She discusses body confidence, motherhood, family and general life antics on her social media. Giovanna is known to uploads weekly YouTube videos to her sister in law  Carrie called ‘Dear Carrie/Dear Gi’ to keep in touch with their lives. Giovanna has written 4 books and 2 short stories. All of which I personally think are bloody fantastic. They’re written wonderfully, so well thought with beautifully described characters.

Billy and Me:

Billy and Me is about a young woman named Sophie who lives in a small town with her mum and works in a cafe. Unexpectedly meeting a handsome, Billy Buskin an English actor who Sophie had no idea existed but resulted in making a huge difference in her life. This story has a wonderful story line and flows so well, I read this whole book in less than a day because I just couldn’t put it down. It has me hooked from the beginning. It was funny, realistic and captivating.

Giovanna also wrote a short story called Christmas with Billy and Me which extends on their life together and the lengths Sophie, Billy and their family go to in order for Sophie to help an anonymous man to propose to his partner.  It’s such a lovely, thoughtful way to extend upon the book and further develop the characters.

Always with Love is the final instalment of the Billy and Me series in which Billy goes back to continue acting in L.A which becomes a strain on his relationship with Sophie as they lived long-distant for several months. This book really finalised the series for me, it gave me everything I wanted for Sophie as a character and also helped me to understand some of the characters that were introduced in the first books (Colin and his children). It really was such a wonderful third book and for me, if there were no further books on Sophie and Billy’s story, I wouldn’t be disappointed at all. These three books are so wonderful and I re-read them all the time. They provide such a loving and compassionate story which represents the true love between partners and families.

You’re the One That I Want:

You’re the One That I Want was my favourite of all Giovanna’s books, it’s brilliant. This book really helped me understand the possible consequences of having a long-distance boyfriend but also that that if you love each other things will work out in the end. It’s about 3 lifelong friends, Maddie, Rob and Ben who have known each other since they were children. Throughout their teens, Rob and Maddie fell for each other and begun a lasting relationship but along the way Ben had realised his true feelings for Maddie causing a very inconvenient love triangle between three best friends. Whilst Rob went off to University of Nottingham, Maddie and Ben made their way to University of Bristol. Along the way, all three of them found themselves in troubled situations in which they all must realise what they truly want.

It’s brilliant, it was so easy and lovely to read. It was another book that I couldn’t put down and I was so glad that Giovanna had continued with writing such beautiful and well-thought stories. This was such a pleasure to read and it was written with such a big heart. It broke my heart for sure.

Dream a Little Dream:

Dream a Little Dream was slightly off for me, It was a great book with so much charm to it and I thought it was such a lovely add to Giovanna’s collection. Sarah had been single for 2 years and it made matters worse that she spent so much time around her ex-boyfriend due to their shared friends. She was working as a personal assistant to the most horrific man in London and her ability to constantly disappoint her mother really put her down, but she was actually quite happy with her life. Unexpectedly, Sarah had begun to dream about an old friend from University who she had really grown attached to, ‘Dream Brett’ was everything she wanted in a man. Until ‘Real Brett’ begun working with her and things became a little awkward. It was written wonderfully and it was such a sweet story to read. I enjoyed it don’t get me wrong but after reading You’re the One That I Want, for me, nothing could compete with it.

Dream a Little Christmas Dream is another short story that extends on Sarah’s life and how it had been magically turned upside down by an unexpected love. Sarah is truly happy and becomes even happier by the end of the book. I thought this was such a lovely short story and I really do think these short stories have had such a good and positive impact on the novels.

Overall, these books are brilliant. They’re witty, romantic, realistic and full of surprises. They’re such a lovely read that kept me mesmerised from the beginning. I can’t help but love Giovanna’s work and definitely look forward to reading her next novel. Let me know your favourite book and author and I’ll check them out.

Giovanna recently announced her new book called Happy Mum, Happy Baby. Due to be released February 2017. This book is ideal for all you mums and dads who want to learn more about the never ending, full time job of parenthood.
