Why You Should Read Harry Potter

During the summer I read all 7 Harry Potter books for the first time since I was a child. Even at 21 years old they didn’t fail me, in fact I was so captivated by the story that I was reading them so fast. The minute I picked one up I couldn’t put it down and before long I was half way through the book regretting reading them too fast.

I honestly believe that everybody should experience reading the Harry Potter books, especially if you were never keen on the movies. The movies and books are similar don’t get me wrong but there is much more of a story in each book. There are things you find out in the books that you’re never told of in the movies.

Not only that, they’re such fun reads and just brings you straight back to your childhood. For me, I wanted something that I could continue to read across a series and fall in love with the characters. This series just done it for me. Admittedly, I’ve been a big fan of Harry Potter ever since the first movie was realeased.

It’s fun, imaginative and J.K Rowling created a story that will be forever known and loved by generations of children and adults.

Being Alone Is Ok

Some people, like myself, become so used to being around a lot of people all the time. Especially within a relationship, it becomes the norm to have someone to rely on and talk too whenever you need them. It’s almost natural to have the support and attention from the same person. However, when you lose that person or people it can become so hard to adjust.

The first week you may find that you’re totally lost with no way of understanding how you’re going to cope. Eventually by the 3rd week it becomes something you’re adjusting too but naturally, sometimes you think about it and it makes you nervous. Your hands sweat, it gives you anxiety and the constant worry of not knowing who is going to look out for you when times get tough. By week 5 you might start to enjoy it again, you’re going out more, meeting and talking to new people and you’re not feeling so anxious about doing things by yourself. By week 10, you’ve adjusted so well that you don’t need nobody and you love nothing more than falling asleep at night peacefully because your life is so simple now.

“I think it’s very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not defined by another person.” – Oscar Wilde.

You’re an independent person with a whole life ahead of you. Your past may be behind you but your achievements and accomplishments are something you should embrace. Yeah, that one person may have given you help through that time, but you came trough? Just because they helped you doesn’t mean that they achieved it. You did. For me, although I had a lot of help to overcome my anxiety and panic attacks, he didn’t actually achieve anything, I did. I came through and learned to control them. I got myself a degree but with a little help from my friends. I worked hard to make sure I maintained being independent.

Although, like I said, when you spend so much time with one individual it can be hard to come through and be alone at the end. Just remember, being alone isn’t a bad thing. It’s valuable time to learn more about yourself and what you deserve, want and need in your life. Its time to learn a new skill, pick up a new hobby, change your hair colour or start a new adventure. Everything you now do is something that you want to do.

Think about it, being alone is actually strong. It shows people that you aren’t afraid of living your own life and making your own decisions. You can be whoever you want to be right now, you decide who that is.

Be whoever you want to be.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer // Review

I purchased this Bronzer whilst in New York this summer and I’ve been committed to it every since. Before I went I knew that if I only purchased one item of makeup it would be this Bronzer since it’s been raved about for so long.

I saw the last one that was in Target and I didn’t hesitate to grab it. I will say that it is very warm toned but don’t let that turn you off. It’s still a gorgeous shade to wear and it doesn’t make your skin look orange at all. In fact, it applies so evenly and just adds a beautiful bronzed glow to the face. The scent is incredible, it’s like summer in a compact.
I’m fair skinned and this just makes my skin look so healthy and nourished. It blends so well regardless of whether you’ve powdered your foundation or not. I’ve been obsessed with this for months now and I’m hoping that Physicans Formula come to the UK so I can try more of their products.

The Great Brownanza

Benefit have released a lot of products across the year but they’re famously popular for their incredible brow range. I’m a huge fan of the goof proof brow pencil but since the products are expensive I’ve never managed to purchase them and test out whether they’re genuinely worth buying.

So, recently on a trip to my local Debenhams, I come across some of the Christmas releases that let’s be fair, look incredible. However, the one that really caught my eye is The Great Brownanza. This is a box of 5 full size brow products and 2 brow tools for £49.50. To buy these products out of the set it would cost around £120 so you’re saving an absolute fortune of £70! This is the ideal gift in my eyes. It has enough brow products to last you at least 6 months and as well allows you to try and test products that have caught your eye but you’ve been anxious about buying them because of the price range.

What do you get? In this set you’re given 5 full size products which are the Benefit Gimme Brow, Benefit Brow Zings, Benefit Goof Proof Pencil, Benefit Ka-Brow and the Benefit High Brow Pencil. You’re also given an angled brow brush with a spoolie attached and a brow mapping tool. Essentially, you receive 7 products at an incredible price so can you really not consider this as a purchase?

The prices of each product individually are:

Benefit Gimme Brow – £20

Benefit Goof Proof Pencil – £20

Benefit Brow Zings – £26.50

Benefits Ka-Brow – £20

Benefit High Brow – £18.50

We all know by now that Benefit have 5 shade ranges in their brow products. Going from 1 to 5, from light to dark. Now, I purchased mine in shade 3 and usually I mix between shade 3 and 4 but now I’m blonde again I’ll happily use shade 3 so this is perfect for me. You can also buy this set in shade 5 but it does not come in any other shade ranges. This is definitely the only fault with the set that it doesn’t come in the lighter shade which means for those who are light blondes with blonde eyebrows, this isn’t catering for you guys. If you like a strong, dark brow then these are the ideal set for you really.

Honestly, this has been my favourite release of 2017 so far and I haven’t even tried all the products. I totally urge you guys to go out and get one, order it online and indulge on

Book Review // The Start of Me and You

The second book I read by Emery Lord was called The Start of Me and You. I’ll admit, it wasn’t as good as When We Collided but still very enjoyable.

At a very young age, Paige suffered the loss of her boyfriend and never thought she would feel the same again. Eventually, life had to change and she realised that there was a lot of things that she wanted to do and no longer wanted to be stopped from doing them. The new school year began and it was time for her to make those changes, but will she ever be able to swim if she doesn’t dive?

The book was just as lovely as When We Collided by Emery Lord. Although I did prefer the other novel, I must admit that I like the character of Paige. She actually reminded me of myself and the things I realised when I knew my life had to change because of anxious thoughts and holding myself back. I love that again, Emery Lord has written in a character who is homosexual and I think that’s such a wonderful aspect to her books because she shows that she is so accepting of everybody’s background and lifestyle choices.

September Favourites

September has come and gone, I feel like this year has flown by. What happened to January 2017? I’m bringing back the monthly favourites because they’re my all time favourite posts to read and I love sharing with you guys what I’ve been enjoying throughout the month. I’ve got some fantastic new things to share with you that I have been loving during September!

Firstly, Rimmel released some liquid lipsticks that I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on! My favourite is the shade coral sass which is essentially an orange toned red shade which I absolutely love on myself. It’s kind of a summery shade but to be honest, I’ll still be wearing throughout the autumn/winter months. They’re so incredibly light weight and dry super fast without making your lips feel dry and chapped.

Converse are a statement shoe in my wardrobe and I especially love them for nights out since they are so comfortable but also can make any outfit look fab. Whether you’re dressing down or dressing up, converse just don’t seem to make an outfit look bad. I bought a white pair (I’m silly, I know I’ll get them dirty eventually) and I’ve been living in them. If you’re a student like I am, you can get 10% off when you purchase any item from schuch which is where I bought mine from.

This will be the second time I’ve mentioned this jacket on my blog but I just can’t help it. I purchased a suede biker jacket from New Look last month and I honestly thought it was the biggest mistake and that I wouldn’t ever wear it since I didn’t know how to dress it. However, I was wrong and this jacket as become my absolute go to! I’ve been loving it. I’ll wear it with a pair of jeans, boots and a white top or even with a skirt, cami and converse for nights out. It’s become a statement jacket that I couldn’t live without.

Since moving back to uni green tea is all I drink (other than wine..). My current favourites are mint, along with apple and cucumber! They’re so refreshing to drink and really help to detox your body, especially after a heavy weekend of drinking.

I’ve been regularly going to the gym to workout and I never ever thought I would enjoy going but I just love how it’s been making me feel. I’m so much more energetic and lively now I’ve been regularly working out! An hour a day in the gym and a 15 minute session of yoga really does make the world of difference. I’m a totally different person! Honestly, I don’t think I could stop going now. I picked up a big at the end of the month and actually felt so guilty for not going to the gym! Although I knew my body needed a rest so that’s what I did.

I finally watched Wonder Woman for the first time and I’ve not enjoyed a film more this year! She was so badass, empowering and bloody gorgeous! The film really was one of the best I’ve seen this year and I can’t wait to watch her in Justice League.

Lastly, the TV show Victoria returned for season 2 and I have been obsessed! I really enjoyed season 1 and I anticipated the return for season 2 and it was totally worth the wait. I love the drama and the history of the show. It really makes you think about the way their lives are as a royal family.

These are my September favourites! Let me know some of yours in the comments and maybe I’ll try them out during October.

October Goals

October is such a lovely time of year. Autumn is my favourite season and I love the feeling of the colder weather appearing, the seasonal fun making an appearance and thinking about the differences I can make to my life during the final months of the year.

This October I’m getting started with my newest adventure, a masters degree! I never thought I’d be saying that by the summer of 2018 I’ll be a 2 time graduate with a masters degree. I’ve challenged myself so much these past 5 years and I love who I am and who I continue to become. This is exactly why this October, I’ll be spending the month focusing on myself. Regularly exercising, keeping up with uni work, hanging out with friends, going to work, treating myself to a gift or 2 occasionally. Essentially, during October I’ll be doing anything and everything that makes me happy. Hopefully by the end of the month I can honestly say October has been the best month of 2017 yet.

In regards to fitness and health, I want to continue to go to the gym at least 5/6 times a week and continue with my healthy eating! Hopefully losing a few pounds in the process but really not keeping track of the numbers on the scale and just with how I’m feeling. I’ll measure my body once a fortnight to see whether there has been any changes but really, I just want to be healthy. I’ll be cutting down on drinking during October to really help boost a loss but still continue to have my cheat meal once a week.

During the month of October I’m going to try (really try) to have several makeup free days during each week. This is mostly because I want to really improve the condition of my skin which means giving myself the opportunity to clear my skin without clogging up my pores!

Most importantly, I’m going to really focus on my course and getting into the swing of being back at uni. Having less nights out and drinking less to make sure I help boost my immune system to go to all lectures and my part time job.

Really though, my only goal this October is to be happy, really truly happy.
